Professor John Gibson received the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award. The NISOD Award recognizes individuals doing extraordinary work on their campuses.*
“It did not surprise me that Dr. Gibson was selected for the Excellence Award. He has a passion for teaching and advising students,” Dean of Health and Public Service Shelley Zimmerman said. “He is excellent in the classroom but shines when engaging his students outside the traditional ‘four walls.’ You can always find Dr. Gibson and the criminal justice students and peace officer cadets about campus dusting for fingerprints, collecting evidence for mock case studies, or maneuvering vehicles through the driving course. He is very deserving of this award.”
Dr. Gibson embodies the Zane State vision of creating “A Promising Future for Every One” by meeting his students wherever they are in their educational journeys. “Since entering the adult education profession, I have always focused on being a mentor and problem solver. I am a lifelong learner and have walked the same path as the students, so I share my experiences and challenges, so they know they are not alone in their academic journey. I hope they learn from this and see that their goals can be attainable,” Gibson said.
