The Dawgs Baseball Team Ended Season With D-II District Runner-Up Trophy

Tri-Valley had high expectations for the D-II District Semi-Final game against rivals John Glenn held at neighboring Coshocton’s beautiful Lake Park Complex on Monday, May 22nd. It took a little while for the game to heat up but the Scotties started off the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when #2 Hansel Holmes hit a fly ball to left field to reach on an error that drove in #7 Ashton Sensibaugh. Holmes followed across home plate on a single hit by teammate #3 Brady Kaufman to set the score TV 2 – JG 0.

The Dawgs came back in the bottom of the fifth inning to grab a run from Hansel Holmes who scored on a single hit by #20 Derrick Stotts. Brady Kaufman scored on the next play when #9 Landon Harney grounded into a fielder’s choice pushing the lead up to 4 – 0 Tri-Valley.

The Scotties wrapped up the game in the bottom of the sixth when #10 Bennett Baker hit a harder grounder to shortstop allowing #12 Nathan Better to score. The game ended with Tri-Valley topping John Glenn 5 – 0.

For the D-II district final game against the New Philadelphia Quakers on Wednesday, May 24th, the two teams couldn’t have been more evenly matched. The Quakers took the early lead with a single in the first inning and by the top of the third inning had a 2 – 1 lead over the Scotties.


Tri-Valley tied the game and took the 3 – 2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Quakers tied up the game again in the top of the sixth at 3 all.

New Phila grabbed the lead again in the top of the seventh inning putting them up 5 – 3 over the Dawgs. Tri-Valley fought back hard at the bottom of the seventh gaining another run but stopped just short of the tie and walked away with a 5 – 4 loss and a very respectable D-II District Runner-Up trophy.

Landon Harney and Bennett Baker made the OHSAA First Team All-East District for the season.
