Dresden & Company Partners with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to Raise Money to Help Cure Childhood Cancer

Dresden & Company (D&Co.) are keeping things fresh with their “Fresh from the Garden” series of baskets. Each month a new veggie or fruit inspired basket has been revealed and sold as a seasonal product that is only available for a limited time. A carrot and strawberry were the first two products in the series, but this month’s basket is not only cute, unique, and beautifully crafted, it is also helping to raise necessary funds to end childhood cancer.

“Part of the mission of the basket was to give back to the larger community,” said Andy Wolfe, Director of Product Development and Manufacturing for D&Co.

D&CO. is donating $10 from every Woven Lemon-aid basket purchased to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), one of the leading funding sources for pediatric cancer research in the United States and Canada.

ALSF was founded by Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was diagnosed with cancer just before her first birthday. At the age of four, Alex opened her first lemonade stand to raise money to find cures for all children with cancer. Just after passing away at the age of eight, Alex’s goal of raising $1 million was reached. Since then the foundation she inspired has continued her mission and has raised more than 250 million dollars that has funded more than 1,000 cutting-edge research projects at nearly 150 institutions and has created two programs to help families of childhood cancer patients.

“When Dresden & Company contacted us about partnering, there was the obvious lemon connection between Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) and the Woven Lemon-Aid basket, but more than that we could truly tell that they wanted to make a difference. It seemed like a great fit all around, and we were excited to join forces in the fight against childhood cancer,” said Selina Andrews the Senior Partnership Coordinator for ALSF.

“Support from businesses makes up a significant portion of our donations at ALSF. Childhood cancer is extremely underfunded, so every dollar matters. We focus on research for safer, less toxic treatments for kids, along with providing support to families through our programs such as Travel for Care and SuperSibs. Business support allows us to continue this mission, and in addition, it raises awareness for the cause,” explained Andrews.

All of the baskets from the “Fresh From the Garden” series are designed by Andy Wolfe, Michael Kennedy, and Ann Freniere and are skillfully crafted by Pam Wheeler, who has woven baskets for over 30 years and joined D&Co. in September 2019. The Woven Lemon-Aid basket features a shoestring weave intricately woven to resemble the inside of a lemon sliced in half.

“I love this cause! Kids are always a special topic. Knowing what you go through as an adult when it comes to cancer and with the kids it is just touching. You want to reach out to them,” Wheeler explained while weaving a Woven Lemon-aid basket.

The Woven Lemon-aid basket can be purchased through dresdenandcompany.com until July 31, 2024.
