Dresden River Park played host to a group of weary kayakers on their second day of a six-day journey from Mt. Vernon, to Marietta, Ohio, roughly a 160-165 mile trek with the Paddle For Heroes.
Paddle for Heroes is a nonprofit, small veterans organization that works to involve veterans, first responders, and others with river clean-ups, community projects, disaster relief, and healing through paddling.
The group based out of Mt. Vernon was midway through their seventh trip on the same path. Along the way, they would portage in the small communities along the river for rest and refreshment. Some of the towns would meet them at the parks where they were camping to offer food and drink and support for the mission that they were on. There were 15 kayakers in total this year and the trip was to honor Danville Police Officer Tom Cottrell who was killed in the line of duty.
