Boy Scout Troop 510 of New Concord, Ohio celebrated 100 years of scouting excellence on May 6th, 2023 at their charter New Concord United Methodist Church. In attendance were as many previous members of Troop 510 as possible along with the Muskingum Valley Council which is the governing group for all Boy Scout Troops in the area.
The Troop took its place in the lineup for the parade for the New Concord Fireman’s Festival held on Main Street on Saturday, July 8th. At the festival, the Troop along with Girl Scout Troop 530 sold homemade ice cream as one of their main fundraisers for the year. Each year the two Troops gather together ahead of time to make batches of ice cream to sell at the festival. This coupled with the regular popcorn sails, peanuts, bake sales, and yard sales make up the majority of the year’s fundraising.
On July 10th, as a guest at the New Concord Village Council Meeting Troop 510 was given a Dedicated Public Service Award on their 100th year Anniversary.
“To keep going on for 100 years is a pretty big achievement to me, I think it’s a great thing for the youth of the community,” stated assistant troop leader Steven Channell.
