This month marks the fifth year for the Dresden Buzz and we are celebrating in a big way!
Some major changes have been made regarding the type of paper we are using, the size, and the number of pages. We are excited to be finally printing on newsprint! It has been something that we have wanted to do since starting the paper in 2018, but the timing just was not right. As with many business ventures, it is best to start small to see what the response is and then grow from there. The response over the past five years has been wonderful, we could not ask for better support from the community as a whole. We have listened to feedback, taken an assessment of where papers are moving the fastest, and what areas are wanting the Buzz, and are growing to meet those needs.
As of this issue, Volume 6, Number 1, we have doubled our circulation and are estimating that circulation will increase to three to four times what we have been doing by the end of this calendar year. Part of this growth is due to demand not being met at several of our current drop locations (places where you can find the Buzz), namely Kroger in Zanesville. With the switch to newsprint, we are able to grow our printed copies to make sure many more are available at key locations like this. Also, we will be adding several more drop locations over the next few months. The list of places where you can find the can found on our website, here.
Some of you are already aware, at the end of last month, we started collecting a mailing list for people who want the Buzz mailed to their home. This is something that our readers have wanted since day one. Mailings will begin once we are finished working with USPS to get our mailing permit established. We will be notifying everyone who has signed up to let them know when to look for the Buzz in their mailbox/P.O. box.
We have been covering Tri-Valley area news for the past five years and will continue to do so, but we will also be reporting on events, and positive news throughout the county as well. We are looking for announcements and community events from various areas within Muskingum County whether it be from churches, non-profit organizations, or businesses we would love to hear about it. Listing announcements or community events in the Dresden Buzz is free. Additionally, we welcome positive and local submitted articles from community groups, organizations, and businesses. The Buzz is always looking for tips for articles. You can send ideas to info@dresdenbuzz.com.
The question we get asked the most since mentioning expanding our coverage into the rest of Muskingum County is, “Are you going to keep the name the same?” The answer is YES! The Dresden Buzz will remain the name of our newspaper. Our office is located in Dresden, Dresden is our home. Dresden has had a newspaper for many years and we are not taking that away. We are just expanding to include the rest of the county in a locally owned and operated newspaper that truly cares about local people, businesses, organizations, and their stories.
