Frazeysburg Fire Department Receives Grant

Frazeysburg Fire and Rescue was the recipient of a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $85,000. The grant will be used to purchase and install a diesel exhaust capture system for each bay in the fire station. The CO Exhaust system will remove harmful chemicals from the gear the fire department uses regularly, eliminating the risk of severe health issues known to be caused by these chemicals.

First Responder Grants, LLC helped in securing the grant money for Frazeysburg Fire and Rescue.

In the past, the department has received six other FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants which have given the station the appropriate funds to add a list of life-saving equipment to their inventory. This includes their first mini pumper that they use to extinguish grass and brush fires, Lifepack cardiac monitors for both EMS units, a Lucas device (a machine that performs chest compressions to a patient who is experiencing cardiac arrest, freeing up an EMT up to perform other life-saving measures when staffing levels are short and time is of the essence), new fire hose, a cascade system (used to refill SCBA bottles which are essential for breathing during smokey rescue missions and situations), and lastly, new turnout gear.

“As a fire department, we have two main goals when serving our citizens and that is to save lives and protect property. Firefighting equipment in general is expensive and working to obtain grants takes much of that expense off of the taxpayers. This also allows us to perform the work we do more safely and efficiently by using newer updated equipment,” stated Frazeysburg Fire Chief Rich Pierce.
