A new Sunday tradition organized by Frank M. LoSchiavo is taking shape in Dresden. The Dresden Antique Vehicle Drive, which was inspired by the “Sunday Car Parade” held in Put-In-Bay, is a social gathering for antique vehicle owners and enthusiasts.
“Here’s how it works… On the first Sunday of each month, we meet at Dresden River Park around 1:45 p.m. Anyone with a street-legal, antique vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle, rat rod, etc.) is welcome to drive with the group. For example, I ride my 1980 Honda CT110 motorcycle. Around 2:00 p.m., we form a line, exit the park, and casually drive through town, waving to people as we show off our antique toys. It’s not a formal parade, so we always drive safely and obey all traffic laws,” explained LoSchiavo.
There have been two Dresden Antique Vehicle Drives so far this summer. The next one will be August 6th. Vehicles will line up again at the Dresden River Park at 1:45 p.m. and will depart around 2:00 p.m
“Here’s the route we drive: Begin at Dresden River Park. Exit the park and turn right onto Muskingum Avenue. Then turn right onto Main Street. Cruise through Dresden toward Trinway. Continue forward into Trinway. Drive past Prospect Place. Turn left at Raiders Road, and then take another left onto Bottom Road. Follow Bottom Road until it takes you back to Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street and head back toward Dresden. Turn right onto Dave Longaberger Avenue, and then left onto Chestnut Street. At the end of Chestnut Street, turn left onto Main Street. Finally, turn right onto Muskingum Avenue, and then turn left back into Dresden River Park.”
“People love seeing antique cars and trucks, particularly kids. So, I want local kids to grow up with memories of antique vehicles cruising around their neighborhoods. Lots of people in Dresden own antique vehicles. This is a great opportunity to dust them off and share them with the community.
Even though the drive takes place in Dresden, anyone from anywhere, even those who live outside of Dresden, are welcome to bring their antique vehicle out and join in on the drive. “Dresden is a friendly place. We welcome all visitors!”
