Reading is a fun and calming way to spend your time and is a hobby shared by many. It can be uplifting to be able to get together with people who have similar interests.
Beauty by Design Floral Boutique & The Dresden Brew Coffee Cafe, located in Dresden, is the site for a book club that is held every Tuesday at six p.m., followed by a devotional. The group discusses whichever book they are reading at the time and shares what they personally think and how they feel about the events throughout the story.
“I love to read, so it’s really interesting for me to sit down and get other people’s viewpoints, you know, opinions, and it helps me look at things in a different way that I probably wouldn’t have normally,” explained Beverly, one of the members of the book club.
The owner of Beauty by Design, Tara Watts, had the idea to start a book club in Dresden. “I struggle to find time for myself and I wanted a way that I could truly connect with the community and add value in some way. I saw a friend post the twelve-month book club idea in December last year and although I am not an avid reader due to time, I thought it would be a way to hold me accountable to ‘me time’ while meeting wonderful new people,” she stated.
The next book that the club discusses will be Behind Closed Doors by B. A. Paris. The book follows the story of Grace, who has a younger sister, Millie. During the story, Grace falls in love with Jack Angel, who at first seems kind and loving towards both Grace and Millie. However, after they get married, he drops the pretense, locking Grace in their vacation home, leaving her with little more than her wits to help her escape. The book club will go over the first half of the book on August 15.
“There’s so much wisdom and experience, and you can learn so much about life and advice and support from all these women, it’s awesome,” said Dee, another member of the book club. ” I love to read, and I find myself not reading, so this kind of, like, makes me make time to read,” book club member Betty explained.
