Bike trail paving scheduled for October completion

Muskingum County Park District announced that the Muskingum Recreational Trail will be closed for paving between Rock Cut Road and Ellis Dam Road from September 25th through October 31st.

Plans have been in place for years to connect the two sections of the trail with pavement which will make for a much smoother ride along the nearly 8 mile route. The project is possible mostly due to an ODOT Transportation Alternatives Program grant. This scenic trail winds parallel to the Muskingum River and leads riders through some picturesque locations including between beds of wildflowers that change with the season, small cascading waterways along rock formations, a wooden landing overlooking wetlands that are home to cranes and various wildlife, and over Ellis Bridge (an old trestle bridge) which present views of the river and Lock Number Eleven at Ellis Dam.

The already paved portion from Rock Cut Road to Dresden will remain open, but the park district asks that you please respect the closure of the unpaved section so contractors can complete the project without delay.
