Muskies Men’s Soccer Team Lose An Early Lead To Bluffton During Home Opener

Back on home field for the first time this season the Muskies were hoping for a better outcome when they went up against the Bluffton Beavers.

It was an evenly matched game, but Bluffton took the first shot on goal about four minutes in but the shot was blocked. The Beavers took a couple more shots on the goal as the half carried on before the Muskies took their first shot just about 19 minutes into the match on a swift kick from Abdikani Mohammed but is was saved by the Bluffton Goalie Angel Velasco-Urbina.

Bluffton fired a shot back just a minute later and it was blocked, the Beavers regrouped and took another shot that was saved by Muskie goalie Caden Groff.

Abdikani took another shot at the goal but again was stopped short by Velasco-Urbina. Terrance Wright took a shot on the goal that was blocked.

The Beaver’s Collin Scheid tried to get a goal off of a header that was skillfullly saved by Groff. After Groff kicked the ball back to his teammates, Muskie David Carlson got behind the ball downfield and took a shot on the goal missing it high above the net.

Mahfuz Yakuba tried a shot a few minutes later as the first half was wrapping up, and it hit the net taking the early lead for the game at 1 – 0.

Elijah Zimmerman tried to even the score for the Beavers but was blocked. The Bluffton squad continued to fight their way forward and Leonardo Campos blazed a shot past Groff that earned the tying point to match the two teams at 1 all. Still on a roll Bluffton continued to fire shots by John Seliskar which was blocked, and a shot from Aaron Steams that was saved by Groff.

Just before the end of the first period Bluffton’s Tarrel McRay grabbed the leading goal to send the Muskies to intermission down 2 – 1.

Bluffton came out of the half really holding the pressure on the Muskies as they continued to fire off shots at the goal. For the second half of the game goalie Angel Velasco-Urbina had three additional saves and Caden Groff had four additional saves.

Just about a minute before the end of the match, Leonardo Campos took a huge shot for Bluffton that landed in the net and finished up the scoring for the game with the Beavers taking the win at 3 – 1.

The Muskies hit the road Saturday, September 23rd to travel to Wittenberg for a 4:30pm gametime.
