The city of Zanesville is asking businesses, organizations, and individuals to celebrate the fall season by participating in the Y-City Scarecrow Contest.
Participants first register online at visitzanesville.com, then pick up their scarecrow frame between September 25 and 28 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. at the Welcome Center, 205 North 5th Street, Zanesville. Over the next couple of weeks, the participants creatively work to bring their scarecrow to life by dressing it and adding a personal flair that set it apart from the others in the contest. After their creation is complete, the participants are asked to drop their scarecrow off at COZ Weed and Litter, 902 Marietta Street, Zanesville, on October 12.
Scarecrows will be placed throughout downtown on display October 16 through 31. During this time votes can be cast on visitzanesville.com. First, second, and third place winners will be decided on based on viewer votes and prizes will be awarded.
There is an entry fee of $30 which includes a sign and the use of the scarecrow frame.
