Just outside Secrest Auditorium and Music Hall amongst the fog stood the Muskingum Multisports start/finish line surrounded by hundreds of eager athletes ready to take on the Zanesville City Half Marathon. Muskingum County Community Foundation hosted the event.
This year’s shirts read, “United As One”. This is the first in person Zanesville City Half Marathon since 2019. The 2020 and 2021 events were held virtually and in 2022 the marathon could not take place because of roads undergoing construction in the vicinity.
Just over 300 registered runners participated and out of those 216 competed in the half marathon. “The numbers were down a little, but that’s okay,” said Nick Beach of Muskingum Multisports. Beach has been in charge of race timing for the event for about four years. His company has clocked hundreds of races and has managed a series of other race events throughout the year.
Participants had the option to also register for a 5K run/walk that took runners across Zanesville’s iconic and historic Y-Bridge.
First place for the 5K was 15-year-old Aidan Miller of Dresden with a time of 21:46.6, second went to Caleb Anderson of Coshocton, and Zanesville’s Scott Leach came in third. All three times were just mere seconds apart. For the half-marathon, Brad Radkoski of Lewis Center took first with his clock time of 1:23:28.7, Meredith Kessler of Westerville earned her second place finish with a time of 1:25:10.0, and clocking in at 1:27:21.2 was Brett Wilson of Zanesville in third place.
