After picking up a win at the end of September against Heidelberg (3 – 2), Muskingum University’s Men’s Soccer has been suffering heavy losses on the road and back at home.
Marietta (10/04/23)
On the road in Marietta the Muskies took to the attack early on grabbing a goal by Ryan Watson off of an assist by Fady Makram 9:31 into the game giving them a 1 – 0 lead that they would hold all the way through the first half.
Shortly after the intermission Marietta answered back with a quick goal from Eli Swirsky off of assists by Reggie Grayek and Christian Cora to tie the game at 1.
The tied score held for almost another twenty minutes as the two teams fought over possession of the ball. Pioneer Gavin Heighberger shot the last goal of the game with an assist by teammate Pat Williamson to take the lead and hold onto it for the victory with a 2 – 1 score .
Logan Caplinger had three saves for Muskies, while Joey Backhaus had two saves for the Pioneers.
Otterbein (10/7/23)
The Cardinals rolled into town on Saturday October 7th, with a large number of wins under their belt and they were determined to keep it that way, taking charge of the game straight away with an early goal by Carter Ely off of an assist by Nick Isaac to take the 1 – 0 lead.
Just a few minutes later Ely picked up a second goal with an assist from Mitchell Patterson to push the score to 2 – 0, just 14:37 into the game.
Mitchell Patterson grabbed his own goal for the Cardinals with help from Will Isaac and Jayden Lunsford to make the lead 3 points. Isaac kept the scoring going just three minutes later with a score off of an assist by Nick Isaac.
Before the end of the first half the Cardinals had racked up a 5 – 0 lead after the final goal of the period was punched in by Nick Isaac with an assist by Giuseppe Maida.
Will Isaac grabbed his second goal of the day for the Cardinals after the intermission with an unassisted shot that hit paydirt for the final score of the game taking home the 6 – 0 shutout victory.
For Otterbein Oskar Kaurin had 2 saves, Gabe Shepherd had 3 saves for the Muskies and teammate Logan Caplinger had 3 saves as well.
Capital (10/11/23)
The Muskies were hoping for a good outcome as the Comets landed in New Concord on Wednesday. Fifteen minutes into the first period Capital player Devon Hess took a successful shot off of an assist by Keegan Reese to take the lead at 1 – 0. The two teams would continue to battle out the rest of the period but the Muskies held their opponents at one point going into the break.
After intermission the Comets lit up the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by Jacob Deever setting their lead at 2 – 0. Less than a minute later Zade Awad found the net with the help of Deever pumping their lead up to 3 – 0.
Muskies player Mahfuz Yakubu took a good shot with an assist by Fady Makram to put Muskingum on the board and narrow the gap at 3 – 1 Capital.
Jack Kossoudji answered back for the Comets with a hit off of Zade Awad that found the net and bolstered their score to 4 – 1.
Yakubu skimmed a shot past the goalie with the help of Tyler Valley to push the Muskies up to 2 points, but Capital’s Jarrett Puckett came back less than a minute later to put in the final nail with Zade Awad on the assist to finalize the score at Capital 5 – Muskies 2.
Goalie Logan Caplinger had 9 saves for the Muskies, Connor Sexton had 2 saves for the Comets.
Baldwin Wallace (10/14/23)
On the road in Berea, Ohio, the Yellow Jackets were swarming the entire first period of the game with Ben Mihalek scoring just three minutes into the game off of an assist by Owen Reyes to take a very early 1 – 0 lead.
Mihalek found the net again with help from teammate Matt Skladany for a 2 – 0 lead with 14 minutes played in the game.
Just before intermission Michael Tusick rounded out the Yellow Jackets lead at 3 – 0 with an assist from Cimi Halilaj.
After regrouping at halftime Mahfuz Yakubu grabbed an unassisted goal right after the whistle to prevent a shutout and to put the Muskies on the board at 1 – 3.
Max Yakym answered back for Baldwin Wallace with an assist from Ben McCauley to bump their lead up to 4 – 1.
The Muskies defense kept the Yellow Jackets from scoring until just before the end of the period when Evan Scott passed the goalie with a kick assisted by Owen Huzicka for Baldwin Wallace, followed by another goal one minute later by Huzicka himself on an unassisted drive at the goal, finishing out the scoring for the game and locking in a 6 – 1 victory over Muskingum.
Logan Caplinger had 5 saves for the Muskies, and Sam Cipriano was attributed 3 saves for Baldwin Wallace.
