About five years ago we wrote an article about the Hogue brothers, Caiden and Cameron, out of Adamsville who pitch horseshoes, competing locally and internationally (see story from 2018). Following up a half decade later, these boys are even more impressive as they have continued to hone their skills in the sport, placing among the top ten in the world in their classes this year, and guess what? Their little brother, Carter, has joined in, adding another horseshoe pitcher to the Hogue household.
Caiden, Cameron, and Carter traveled to Michigan to compete in the 2023 World Tournament this past summer placing third, seventh, and sixth respectively in their classes. Over 947 competitors from three countries competed at the Lansing Convention Center in Lansing Michigan for the 2023 World Tournament held July 17-29. 48 US states were represented and Ohio had 76 participants enter. The championship was hosted by The Greater Lansing Sports Authority in conjunction with the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association and the Michigan Horseshoe Pitchers Association. The competitors were divided into three divisions; mens, womens, and juniors.
Caiden, 17, is now a junior at Tri-Valley High School. He has been pitching since 2014 and is currently ranked third in the world with a ringer percentage of 60.50. His achievements include 2023 World Tournament Junior Championship 3rd Place, 2023 World Tournament Junior Class A 5th Place (qualified to move on to Championship round), 2022 World Tournament Junior Championship 5th Place, 2022 World Tournament Junior Class B 1st Place (qualified to move on to Championship round), 2018 World Tournament Cadet Class A 4th place, 2016 World Tournament Cadet Class A 8th place, 2021, 2022, & 2023 Ohio State Junior Champion, and 2017, 2018 & 2020 Ohio State Cadet Champion. Outside of pitching horseshoes, Caiden is doing very well academically making it on the honor’s list. He is the President of both the Tri-Valley FFA and Adamsville Mixed Farmers 4-H Club. He is a member of the National Honor Society, bowling team, Muskingum County Junior Fair Board, Muskingum County Junior Leaders Club, Riverside Grange, and attends St. Nicholas Catholic Church where he teaches Sunday school.
Cameron, 13, is currently attending Tri-Valley Middle School and is in eighth grade. He has been pitching since 2016 with a ringer percentage of 32.22. Some of Cameron’s achievements so far include 2023 World Tournament Junior Class B 7th Place, 2022 World Tournament Junior Class B 5th Place, 2018 World Tournament Cadet Class B 3rd Place, 2022, 2023 Ohio State Tournament Junior Class B 1st Place, 2021 Ohio State Tournament Cadet Class A 1st Place, 2018, 2020 Ohio State Tournament Cadet Class B 1st Place, and 2017 Ohio State Tournament Class C 1st Place. Outside of the sport, Cameron is a very active eighth-grader. He is on the Principal’s list, is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Tri-Valley Marching Band, Junior Track, Adamsville Mixed Farmers 4-H Club, Muskingum County Junior Leaders, and Riverside Jr. Grange. He also attends St. Nicholas Catholic Church with his family.
The youngest of the three brothers, Carter, is nine years old and attends Adamsville Elementary where he is in third grade. He is fairly new to pitching as he just began in 2022. His ringer percentage is 4.98 but will undoubtedly increase in no time. In just the past year he has already accumulated quite the list of successes in the sport including 2023 World Tournament Cadet Class C 6th Place, 2023 Ohio State Tournament Cadet Class B winner, 2022 Ohio State and Tournament Cadet Class A winner. He is involved in Adamsville Mixed Farmers 4-H as a Cloverbud, Riverside Jr. Grange, and plays basketball, baseball, and flag football. Like his brothers, he also attends St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Sanctioned winter leagues just kicked off last month and run through April. The Hogue brothers are part of the local Try County Horseshoe Pitchers Association. They pitch on Thursday nights at Sarbaugh’s Indoor Courts in Adamsville. Caiden, Cameron, and Carter are on a team with their mom, Theresa, and their grandfather, Marvin Paul. The Try County Horseshoe Pitchers are a sanctioned league member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. For more information be sure to check them out on Facebook.
The Hogue brothers are ready to rack up some ringers in the 2023/24 season and make Adamsville and the surrounding area proud as they proceed with another great year of pitching.
