On Wednesday night, Dec. 20, Coach Kurt Kaufman’s Tri-Valley girls’ basketball team traveled to New Concord to match their 4-1 conference mark with John Glenn’s 4-1 MVL record.
The Lady Dawgs led at every break over the host Lady Muskies and took home a 41-36 win, improving their overall record to 6-2 and now 5-1 in Muskingum Valley League play.
Tri-Valley jumped out to an 18-7 lead by first quarter’s end, thanks to a pair of treys from starting guards P.D. Moore and Maddie Garber, four points apiece Addison Wilson and Mackenzie Harvey, and a fielder from senior guard Karlee Rose.
The second period saw the visiting Tri-Valley offense cool considerably, getting just a three-point bomb from Garber and a Jacie Rollison counter in the quarter, but the Lady Dawgs still led 23-16 at halftime.
Tri-Valley only scored 18 points in the second half, but it was enough to hold off the host Lady Muskies, who made a game of it in the fourth frame, before falling to the Lady Dawgs by the final 41-36 count.
Balanced scoring was the name of the game in the TV win, as Maddie Garber led the winners with 11 points, followed by Karlee Rose and Jacie Rollison with eight counters each, and seven out of Mackenzie Harvey. Riley Zamensky led the host Lady Muskies with a game-high 17 points, while Emma Dolan looped in a trio of treys as well for John Glenn.
The Lady Dawgs lost the junior varsity in a tight contest, falling 30-28 in a game that was tied at halftime and at the end of the third quarter as well. Ella Knowlton led the Lady Dawg JVs with 13 points, with Audrey Wickerham adding 11 markers. Emma Babcock led the winning JG JVs with nine points, while Aubrey Larrick added eight counters.
Back on Saturday, Dec. 16, the Lady Dawgs jumped out to a 23-5 lead at the first break and never looked back in posting a 50-19 win over the host Maysville Lady Panthers.
Maddie Garber led TV with 13 points, with Addison Wilson and Mackenzie Harvey adding nine, and PD Moore eight counters. Avery Daniels led Maysville with ten points. In an exciting junior varsity contest, TV sophomore Ella Knowlton looped in a three-pointer from behind the arc for the game winner ahead of the buzzer for her team’s 29-26 win over the Maysville JVs. Audrey Wickerham led the winners with eight points, with Cami Susil adding seven. Liv Shipley’s 12 points were tops for Maysville.
Back on Wednesday night, Dec. 13, Coach Kurt Kaufman’s Tri-Valley girls’ basketball team hiked its season record to 4-2 with a 50-19 win over visiting River View in Dresden at The Dawg House.
Lady Dawg junior forward Jacie Rollison scored nine of her 14 points in the first quarter to pace her team to a fast start, getting six points from close range, and adding a long looper from behind the arc as well, as Tri-Valley jumped out to a 15-1 advantage at the first break and never looked back against the Lady Bears, who fell to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in Muskingum Valley League play.
TV junior Addison Wilson got into the scoring act in the second stanza for the home team, stripping the nets for six points, while senior guard Karlee Rose swished a three-pointer and sophomore starting guard Maddie Garber added a counter as well, as the Lady Dawgs extended their lead to 28-11 by halftime.
Wilson dropped in eight more points in the second half and led the Lady Dawgs in scoring with a game-high 16 points, with Rollison right behind with her 14 markers. Karlee Rose added seven for the winners, and senior guard PD Moore contributed six points. Senior guard Kylan Brock aided the cause with a third quarter three-point bomb, while sophomore guard Ella Knowlton added a fourth quarter fielder as well.
Regan Foster and Elaina Brenly led the Lady Bears with five points each, with Alyssa Fox, Kylie Miller, and Bridgette Bible all adding three markers apiece as well for River View.
Coach Mark Huffman’s Tri-Valley junior varsity team defeated River View 44-12 in the reserve contest. Freshman Cami Susil led the winners with 13 points, while Natalie McCarty and Audrey Wickerham added 10 counters each. Addison Harris dropped in four, Gwyn Dal Ponte three points, and Baylie Tignor and Abby Channels a fielder apiece for the black and gold. Paisley Miller’s four points, and a first frame trey from Navaya Stevens led the Lady Bears JVs.
The Lady Dawgs close out the 2023 calendar year with a pair of non-conference contests – a Dec. 22 visit to Logan, then a home game on Wednesday, Dec. 27 vs. visiting Indian Valley.
