Scottie swimmers host two home meets before heading to Athens ahead of holiday

December 13 (Union Local/Marietta/Coshocton/St.Clairsville) –

Ushering in the Christmas season, Tri-Valley swimmers met at the Y to test their swim skills and welcome six neighboring high school swim teams as they all approached year-end 2023. As the competition came to a close on December 20, the Scottie swimmers again proved that they are force to be recognized in local swim circles.

Scottie girls, again, set the tone for the meet as Savanna Brooks, Mia Fuhriman, twin sister Jesi Fuhriman and Sarah Jacoby combined to capture first place in the 200 Yard Medley by nearly 10 seconds. This foursome was followed by a second Scotty squad of Dara Wilson, Erica Lewis, Kendyll Buckner and Braylie Burkey.

Not to be outdone, two teams of Tri-Valley boys comprised of AJ Lawler, Carter Dinan, Kollin Buckner and Sam Wegner followed by the team of Jack Morehouse,Danny Jiang, Garrett Stirling and Jaxon Hammond made their presence known as the two squads finished second and fourth respectively.

Boys swimmers AJ Lawler and Aiden Lentz placed second and sixth in the 200 Yard Freestyle and Dani Stewart and Gabby Hensel captured second and third for the Lady Scotties. Mia Fuhriman nailed down first place in the 200 Yard IM for the girls (each swimmer swims one 50 yard lap using all four of the basic strokes) while Carter Dinan and teammate Dallin Stirling took first and second for the boys.

Girl swimmers Erica Lewis, Erin Lewis, Brianna Clark, Alaina Roberts and Savanna Brooks represented Tri-Valley in the 50 Free while Aiden Lentz, Sam Wegner, Garrett Stirling, Caden Blake and Danny Jiang swam for the Scotty boys.

Jesi Fuhriman was back in the water as she finished first in the 100 Yard Butterfly followed by teammate Erica Lewis. On the boys side, Garrett Stirling and Kollin Buckner finished third and fourth.

Mia Fuhriman, Sara Jacoby, Dani Stewart, Gabby Hensel, Braylie Burkey, Erin Lewis, Brianna Clark and Dara Wilson all represented the Scotty girls as Carter Dinan and Dallin Stirling finished second and third followed be teammates Jack Morehouse, Jaxson Hammond and Isaac Lanning in the 100 Free.
Savanna Brooks represented Tri-Valley as she finished third in the 500 Free for the girls and Sam Wegner registered a second place finish for the Scotty boys in the same event.

Teammates Jacoby, Hensel, Stewart and Jesi Fuhriman captured first in the 200 Free Relay
finishing five seconds in front of the second place team followed by a fourth place finish registered by Burkey, Erin Lewis, Buckner and Erica Lewis. Boys swimmers Dallin Stirling, Garrett Stirling, Buckner and Dinan came in third followed by teammates Morehouse, Jiang, Blake and Lentz who were right behind them in fourth.

Sarah Jacoby nailed down first place in the girls 100 Backstroke while boys swimmers Buckner, Moorehouse, and Blake finished second, third and fourth in the boys 100 Backstroke. Great finishes were recorded by Jesi Fuhriman in the girls 100 Breaststroke as well as by Lawler (second place) and Jiang (fourth place) in the boys 100 Breaststroke.

To cap the meet, the team of Brooks, Hensel, Stewart and Mia Fuhriman took first in the girls 400 Free Relay as they finished nearly 15 seconds ahead of the second place team and were followed by teammates Clark, Roberts, Wilson and Erin Lewis. The boys team of Lawler, Dallin Stirling, Wegner and Lentz finished in second place in their 400 Free Relay.

In summary, a great effort was experienced by all and coaches were pleased by the progress of the entire squad.

December 20 (Lancaster/Northridge/New Philadelphia/RPMC) –

Coach Christi Holmes, Head Tri-Valley Swim Coach welcomed 33 swimmers to the 2023-24 version of the Dawgs outstanding swim contingent. A group of eighteen boys and thirteen girls got on the blocks to test their skills against local rivals Coshocton, Cambridge, John Glenn, Marietta, St. Clairsville and Union Local. Tri Valley swimmers did not disappoint.

When the splashing ended, the girls had out-poined all competition as had the boys. Both Scottie squads had piled up a total of 75 points and showed just why they are forces to be respected this swim season.
To start off the competition, the girls team of Savanna Brooks, Mia Fuhriman, Jesi Furhiman and Sarah Jacoby captured first place in the 200 Medley Relay followed by the team of Kendyll Buckner, Braylie Burkey, Erica Lewis and Erin Lewis with Dara Wilson, Biranna, Addison Durst and Alaina Roberts close behind. On the boys side, JA Lawler, Owen Harney, Carter Danan, and Dallin Stirling finished first with the four man team of Jack Morehouse, Danny Jiang, Garrett Stirling and Aiden Lentz capturing a close second.

Other impressive performances were turned in by the boys team of Dinan, Sam Wegner, Dallin Stirling and Lawler where they finished first in the 400 Yard Free Relay to duplicate a first place finish turned in by Jacoby, Gabby Hensel, Dani Stewart and Jesi Fuhriman in the girls version of the 400 Free Relay.
Breaststrokers Mia Fuhriman (third place) followed by teammate Erica Lewis performed well. For the Scotty boys, Owen Harney and fellow Dawg Carter Dinan were a very close second and third respectively in the boys 100 Breast.

Five of the entrants in the boys 100 Back were Scotties led by AJ Lawler (first place) and
Girls 50 Yard Free is always a fun event. This meet was no exception. Sarah Jacoby finished in second place less than a half a second behind her competition from Coshocton followed by six other Scottie swimmers (Stewart, Durst, Buckner, Clark, Erin Lewis and Wilson). A total of six Tri-Valley swimmers followed AJ Lawler to the finish line to record his first place finish (Wegner, Dallin Stirling, Buckner. Hammond and Lanning.)

Girls standout, Mia Fuhriman, completed the Girls 100 Butterfly to finish in first place just ahead of fellow swimmer Erica Lewis (third place). On the boys side, Jack Morehouse and Caden finished third and fifth in the 100 Butterfly. Jesi Fuhriman finished first followed by Savannah Brooks, Burkey, Buckner, Erin Lewis and Roberts in the 100 Free. The 200 Free, saw Jacoby turn an impressive swim to finish first. Blake and Harney touched in third and fifth accordingly in the Boys 100 Butterfly.

Scottie swimmers made their presence known in the freestyle events as they usually do.. Dani Stewart finished in second place in the 500 Free.It was no different on the boys side. Dallin Stirling finished second in the lengthy 500 Free followed by Buckner. In the Boys 200 Free, Caden Blake and Owen Harney came in third and fourth while in the 100 Free, Dinan, Wegner, Lentz and Jiang took second thru fifth followed by Lanning. For the Lady Dawgs, Savannah Brooks touched in first place followed by Hensel, Wilson, Roberts and Brianna Clark.

Mia Fuhriman was a close third in the girls 100 Breast just ahead of teammate Erica Lewis. Sister Jesi Fuhriman turned in an impressive performance in the Girls 200 IM with a first place finish with teammate Gabby Hensel on her heels. Garrett Stirling swam a strong 200 IM followed by Aiden Lentz for the boys squad.

When all was said-and-done, the Tr-Valley Scotties had an impressive meet. The 2023-24 promises to be very productive and enjoyable.
