John Glenn girls varsity basketball is starting off the year the right way with two big wins

John Glenn vs Crooksville (1/06)

The Lil’ Muskies headed just outside of Muskingum County on Saturday to play the fellow MVL Ceramics in Crooksville. Without delay, the John Glenn team cracked through the Crooksville defense and put them on their heels trying to catch up with a first-quarter score of JG 15 – Ceramics 7.

As the intensity of the game continued to grow, the Muskies totally shut down the Ceramics offense keeping them to just two points for the entire second period as they pumped out ten times the points ending the first half of play up 35 – 9.

After halftime, John Glenn went back to the court to continue their domination of the game as they only allowed one more shot again for the Ceramics and put up another 17 of their own points to take a 52 – 11 lead going into the final quarter of play.

With the score weighed heavily in their favor John Glenn decided to put in their second-string players for the remainder of the game. Crooksville was able to outplay the new squad 8 – 0 for the quarter but it was obviously not enough to bridge the gap and the Muskies shattered the score with a 52 – 19 win.

John Glenn vs New Philadelphia (1/03)

The Quakers hopped on a bus headed to New Concord Wednesday to face the Lil’ Muskies. As both teams got warmed up, the defenses were on point holding the first quarter to just a few points for each of them.

During the second quarter of play the two teams came alive but John Glenn was really holding no punches as they jumped off to the lead and left the Quakers following behind as they built a respectable 23 – 15 lead going into the break.

John Glenn clearly got the better halftime speech as they came back out to power their way through another 23 points in the third quarter alone as they stunted the advancement of the Quaker’s offenses pumping the scoreboard up to a 46 – 20 lead heading into the final quarter.

New Philadelphia managed to pull off another ten points for their score but the Muskies had the game in the bag as they reeled in a whopping 60 – 30 victory for the night.

John Glenn vs Dover (12/28)

The girls from New Concord got to head to Dover on Thursday to face the Crimson Tornadoes on their home court. Dover came into the matchup with a 5 – 3 record and John Glenn had a 6 – 2 overall record so the teams were pretty evenly matched.

The first quarter started off with the Lil’ Muskies taking an early 15 – 9 lead in the first few minutes of the game, but it didn’t take long for Dover to catchup ending out the first period with John Glenn having a one-point advantage over the Tornadoes at 15 – 14.

The Muskies retained the lead for much of the second quarter as they were hoping to build it up before the halftime break, however, Dover got the drop on them and took a last-second 24 – 22 jump headed into the intermission.

Both teams were ready to go when play resumed and they went shot-for-shot throughout the entire third quarter making sure that neither one would get an advantage they pushed the decision to the final period of play as the teams ended the quarter neck and neck with a score of Dover 32 – JG 30.

The game ended just as it began with the balance leaning on whoever had the ball at the time of the buzzer. Dover had the final score of the game handing John Glenn a heartbreaking 44 – 43 loss.
