Maysville boys varsity basketball pushing their way up the MVL ranks as they land two big conference wins

Maysville vs Philo (01/09)

The Panthers headed over the hill to neighboring Philo Middle School on Tuesday to take on the Electrics in the “Power Plant”. The Maysville team shocked their hosts with a blast of energy that sent them reeling. By the end of the first quarter, the stunned Philo team watched as the visitors built a huge 31 – 12 lead.

The Electrics forced their way forward in the second quarter with a surge of points to try and gain on their opponent. They were able to close the gap partially but still went to the halftime intermission down 45 – 35 to the Panthers.

The break didn’t do any favors for the home team as they struggled to keep the Panther’s offense in check but had no luck. The Maysville team continued to land blast after blast of points, and even though the Electrics had an impressive 17-point period the Panthers built a 77 – 52 lead going into the final minutes.

Philo played an otherwise great game on the offensive side amassing 67 points by the end of play, which would possibly be enough to surmount a lot of opponents, but Maysville had other plans as the minutes ticked down they came dangerously close to eclipsing triple digits with a final blowout score of 96 – 67.

Maysville vs Sheridan (01/05)

The Sheridan Generals hopped over to Maysville for a faceoff against the Panthers as they stepped onto the court at the Panther Pound. Sheridan took the lead early in the first quarter but Maysville rose to the occasion and pushed forward tying up the game and then surpassing the Generals to end the first period up 25 – 14.

Sheridan doubled their score in the second quarter but the Panthers just kept pouncing forward with a big leap in the period pushing them to a large 43 – 29 lead to end the half.

The Panthers didn’t slow down after halftime, they kept the pedal to the floor as they rocketed past the Sheridan defenders and put up another 21 points for the quarter going into the final quarter up 64 – 48.

The Generals were able to gain a little ground in the final minutes narrowing the lead that the Panthers had over them but ultimately there just was not enough time to mount a comeback and Maysville took the game with a final score of 79 – 66.

Maysville vs Malvern (01/02)

The Malvern Hornets made a visit to Maysville for Tuesday’s non-conference matchup against the Panthers. The Hornets came into the game with an unbeaten record and Maysville came off of a MVL championship last season, so the matchup was looking to be a good one.

The two teams were hot on each other’s heals for the majority of the first half of the game with Malvern jumping ahead by a few points at first but Maysville dropped the gap to just one point before halftime.

When the intermission concluded the two teams went right back to battling with the score tying up at every turn there wasn’t much gap for either of the two squads to call it a sure-shot win ending the quarter tied at 47 points each.

In the final period, the two teams fought hard with the score still balanced across much of the quarter but in the last few minutes, Malvern pulled way ahead putting an 11-point cushion between themselves and the Panthers and taking the victory with the 75 – 64 score.

Maysville vs Carrollton (12/29)

The Warriors were the visitors at the Panther Pound Friday for the non-conference battle against Maysville. The Panthers made it perfectly clear to their guests in the first quarter that the game would be short-lived as they quickly mounted a 33 – 15 lead.

The Carrollton team was almost completely stifled in the second quarter as they were held to just one shot as the Maysville team totally dominated the court and sent their opponents to the intermission down 56 -17.

Halftime intermission brought the Warriors to their feet for the third quarter as they tried to climb the score gap that had been created by their hosts and although they did have an 11-point quarter, Maysville sent them into the final minutes of play down by a massive 66 – 28.

The last minutes of the game were almost like they were not even present as Maysville held them to two more shots as they continued to build a tower of points that would make any team shy away. In the end the Panthers captured a huge 81 – 32 victory over Carrollton.
