West Muskingum vs Maysville (1/03)

On Wednesday the Maysville girls went to nearby West Muskingum High School to play the Lady Tornadoes on their home court. The West M team did not waste any time showing Maysville why they are called the Tornadoes as they whipped up a scoring storm that saw them taking a 9 – 3 lead early in the first quarter of play.

Slowing down was not an option for the West Muskingum team as the second period of play went on. The Tornadoes had rushed past the Maysville defense repeatedly and just before the halftime buzzer, the girls had built an 18 – 8 point wall for the Maysville team to think about during the break.

Straight out of the locker room, the West Muskingum team went right back to punishing the girls from Maysville blasting the defenses and growing their lead to a massive 30 – 9 gap before the end of the third period.

The Lady Panthers came to life in the final quarter putting up their largest score of the game with a 15-point quarter, but the Tornadoes just kept piling on the points and the devastation was too far gone. When the wind had settled the West Muskingum team had taken a 52 – 24 victory.

West Muskingum vs Licking Valley (12/30)

The Licking Valley Lady Panthers made their way to West Muskingum on Saturday to play the Lady Tornadoes in a non-conference game. Although Licking Valley took an early lead, an explosive fourth quarter turned the game around for the home team.

Early in the first quarter of play, the Panthers were showing off some fancy footwork as they made their way around the West Muskingum defenses. Despite trying to hold the visitors at bay the Licking Valley team had doubled the Tornadoes score at 12 – 6 before the end of the first period.

As the Lady Tornadoes got their footing in the second quarter they started to gain on Licking Valley rallying points to beat the deficit from the first quarter and rounding out the half down by just two points at 20 – 18 before the buzzer.

When the game reconvened the two teams were on more even ground as the defenses for both ramped up so much so that scoring was held to a minimum. For the few points they were scored, the Tornadoes were closing the gap even more pulling within one point at 24 – 23 Licking Valley.

Despite having such a close game in the first three quarters the Tornadoes whipped into full steam in the final minutes of the game almost doubling their score while holding Licking Valley to only one shot for the entire period. With the home crowd on the edge of their seats West Muskingum pulled out all of the stops for a massive 40 – 26 victory.

Lakewood bounced back in the second quarter to outplay the West M team with a point margin for the quarter of 13 – 6 against the Tornadoes but they still went to the halftime break with a 33 – 20 hill to climb.

Fresh out of the intermission the Tornadoes began the third quarter much like the first with a blast of points while holding the offense of the Lancers to a minimum. With Lakewood on the ropes, the West M team headed into the final minutes of play up 52 – 30.

With just minutes on the clock for the game, Lakewood tried to mount some kind of comeback, but their hosts were just too far ahead and continued to land shot after shot. When it was all said and done the Tornadoes send the Lancers packing with a 72 – 43 loss.
