Brayden Snider pulled off a jump of 12 feet to get the Girls Division II Pole Vault State Title. After reaching third place last year in the same event, Snider set her sites on getting the top spot and she made it happen.
Coach Doug Joy had this to say “You have athletes that come through here and they say that they have goals but they really don’t know the amount of work and dedication it takes, but I will say that Brayden has put the time in, she’s put the effort it’s been a goal of hers since last season and we left the state where she got third. She is different from other athletes because she is driven, she says she is going to do certain things and she does, I don’t ever have to worry about her not doing the work, or not doing what she needs to do, she is very competitive. Any athlete can say I want to win a state title but you have to put it all together and give up certain things and dedicate yourself to that and follow up and succeed with it, that’s quite an accomplishment.”
After claiming the Regional Title at the Muskingum University Campus she set her sites on getting a State win.
Before being the lone competitor to attempt a 12-foot jump, Snider almost missed at an 11-8 failing on her first two attempts, if she had missed the third she would have been eliminated from the competition.
“When I miss a jump, I try not to think about it and just jump again” stated Snider.
With the win, Snider is now one of only three competitors to hold a State Title for Track and Field from John Glenn High School.
