Vs Phillies doubleheader (6/9)
In a doubleheader at the Hamilton Township High School on Sunday the Senior Pioneers made a clean sweep with a 3 – 0 shutout in game one and a 2 – 1 win for game two.
The Pioneers will be back at Gant Stadium on June 20th to take on the Junior Pioneers, game time is set for 7:30 pm.
Vs Zanesville Senior Legion Post 29 (6/5)
On Wednesday night at Gant Stadium, the Zanesville Senior Legion Post 29 team took on the Senior Pioneers. The Pioneers struck first taking a 1 – 0 lead at the top of the first inning, but the Legion answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning taking the lead for the first time in the game with a 2 – 1 score. In the top of the second inning, Carter hit a line drive to center field driving in Church and Rock to take back the lead followed by a sacrifice fly to center by Neff to bring in Trenton Gregg to set the score at 4 – 2 for the Pioneers. Wade Pauley also hit a sacrificial fly to bring in the final run of the inning at 5 – 2 over the Legion.
The Pioneers landed two more runs over the course of the next two innings jumping up to a score of 7 – 2 by the top of the fourth inning. The Senior Legion nabbed two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to slow the Pioneers a bit but still trailed by a score of 7 – 4. After one scoreless inning, the Pioneers lit up their bats in the top of the sixth inning with a single, a double, and a three-run homer by Pauley to take their tally to 12 – 4. The Legion was not able to recover in the bottom of the sixth and the final score was locked in along with the Pioneers victory.
Vs Columbus Brewers doubleheader (6/2)
Gant Stadium in downtown Zanesville was host to a doubleheader against the Brewers on Sunday. In game one, the Pioneers jumped out to a quick start when Jeramie Neff doubled on a line drive to left field bringing in Easton Eibel for a 1 – 0 lead. Neff scores during a walk a few plays later. Barclay stepped up to the plate to deliver a grounder into a fielder’s choice allowing Polluck to score bringing the Pioneer’s lead up to 3 – 0 by the end of the first inning.
Neither team landed any points in the second or third innings, it wasn’t until the top of the fourth when the Brewers grabbed a run to narrow the gap a little at 3 – 1.
Both pitchers pulled their weights over the next two scoreless innings until the top of the seventh inning when the Brewers opened their batting lineup with a run off of a single by Tucker, followed by a double by Vila bringing home Heus and Tucker to take the lead 4 – 3, Vila scored a few minutes later off of a sacrifice grounder by Evans to lock the score in at 5 – 3. The Pioneers were not able to recover in the bottom of the seventh and the Brewers took home the victory for game one.
During game two of the doubleheader, the Brewers took the lead first with a 1 – 0 score at the end of the first inning. The Pioneers answered back in the top of the second inning tying the game at 1, then grabbed the go-ahead run in the top of the third inning.
The Pioneers started the fourth inning with a bang as Barclay homered to center field taking their lead to 3 – 1. Barclay ended up scoring a few minutes later along with his teammate Andrew Church off of a single by Jerry Nava pushing the lead to 5 – 1 for the Pioneers. The Brewers rallied in the bottom of the fourth tying up the game at 5. Columbus was able to get the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Pioneers tied it up in the top of the seventh at 6 all. In the eighth inning, the Pioneers grabbed a couple of runs to take the lead at 8 – 6, but the Brewers came back with a double by Thomas, followed by a score on a walk, with Young hitting a single in the next play giving the Brewers the walk-off run to end the game with a 9 – 8 victory sweeping the doubleheader.
