Junior Pioneers Still Keep A Winning Record After a Few Hard Losses

Vs Dayton Thunderbirds 2024 18O doubleheader (7/7)

On the road in Dayton the Junior Pioneers went to face the Thunderbirds on Sunday.  Dayton grabbed the first run of the game in the bottom of the first and padded that lead with five more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 6 – 0 lead over Zanesville. After tacking on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning the Junior Pioneers tried to rally back in the top of the fifth inning with a double and a pair of singles that garnered them four runs but they were still short three runs at the end of the inning.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, Dayton added two more runs to their total and finished out the game with a 9 – 4 victory.

In game two, the Pioneers took a 1 – 0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Thunderbirds tied and added a second run in the bottom of the inning to take a 2 – 1 lead.  Dayton landed two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning pushing their lead to 4 – 1.  In the top of the seventh inning, Campbell scored on an error but just a few minutes later Lackey struck out falling short and ending game two down 4 – 2.

Vs Columbus Bruins 2024 doubleheader (7/6)

Game one in Columbus on Saturday started off slow until the Bruins pumped out three runs in the bottom of the second and third innings taking a 3 – 0 lead.  In the top of the fourth inning the Junior Pioneers tied up the game at three with a sacrifice fly by Hammersly, a triple by Reis, and a single by Lackey.  The Bruins came back to match the three runs in the bottom of the fourth and took back the lead at 6 – 3.  In the top of the sixth inning, the Pioneers landed a single run but it was not enough and they fell to the Bruins in game one 6 – 4.

In game two, thanks to two singles and some fancy footwork, the Pioneers popped out four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4 – 0 lead.  Columbus answered back with one run in the bottom of the inning, but the Pioneers piled on three more runs thanks in part to a double by Tiedman in the top of the fourth to bump their lead to 7 – 1.  Columbus tried to come back, but only managed one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning and game two went to the Junior Pioneers 7 – 2.
