Lorena Sternwheeler the star of Civil War Reenactment and Encampment along Muskingum River

A Civil War Reenactment and Encampment returned to the banks of the Muskingum River on July 19 and 20th. Camps were set up at Riverside Park with reenactors dressed for the period and carrying muskets and arming cannons.

The most unique part of this annual event is the utilization of the Lorena Sternwheeler. Ticket holders could board the Sternwheeler from Zane’s Landing Park at set times and get right in the action with “soldiers” taking “shots” at their enemies along the river’s edge. Cannons and firearms returned “fire” and the sounds of “battle” could be heard for miles. This opportunity provided a thrilling experience on the Sternwheeler which contrasts the normally tranquil ride on the Muskingum.

Saturday, Civil War Historian, Steve Ball was on board the boat enriching the performance further for any history enthusiast. Additionally, “Honest Abe Lincoln” was in company for two of the morning outings on Saturday.
