Muskingum University mens basketball hit top-four OAC seed after sweeping Marietta

Vs Marietta (2/19)

Wednesday’s home game against Marietta started out of the gate taking a huge jump forward with a 40 – 31 first-half advantage.  

The Pioneers were on top of the second half breaking through the Muskie’s defenses as often as they could and leading the half by four points, but it was not enough to take the win as the Muskies won the game 70 – 65 securing a top-four OAC seed.

The game was the Muskie’s first season sweep of Marietta since the 2007-2008 season.

Muskingum University will host an OAC Tournament game on Tuesday at 7 PM. as the number 3 or 4 seed.

Vs Otterbein (2/15)

On the road in Otterbein, the Fighting Muskies were looking to grab another win against the Cardinals but despite putting up a 33-point first half, the Cardinals took the first half by a score of 42 – 33.  

Muskingum outplayed the Cardinals in the second half but not by enough to completely tie up the game so they fell by a score of 81 – 76.

For the game junior Duane Davis led the Muskies with 17 points, four rebounds, and two steals, while teammate Nathan Walker had 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds, Owen Emig also had 15 points, and freshman Alieu Ceesay earned 12 points for the Muskies.

Vs Mount Union (2/12)

Wednesday night, the Purple Raiders from Mount Union rolled into town to face the Muskies.  Muskingum started the game strong, taking a 42 – 35 lead at halftime.

The second half of the game saw the Raiders outscore the Muskies by seven points closing the gap and ending regular play time at a draw sending the two teams into overtime  

In the first overtime period, the two teams couldn’t have been more evenly matched as they both landed 10 points squaring off for double overtime.

It all came down to the final minutes of the second overtime period when the Raiders pulled out ahead by just three points to take the win 86 – 83.

Vs Ohio Northern (2/08)

Muskingum University hosted the Ohio Northern Polar Bears on Saturday. The Fighting Muskies started from the tipoff taking control of the game and pushing the Polar Bears back on their heels jumping out to a 34 – 25 lead by the end of the first half.  

Back on the court after halftime, the Polar Bears had a new strategy to try to close the gap, they made some headway, but in the end, they fell two points short of catching the Muskies and MU took the 68 – 66 win to clinch their place in the OAC tournaments.

Senior Luken Hill led the Muskies with 18 points, six rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and an assist. Junior Duane Davis had 11 points, four rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Senior Zaveon Croff had 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal.
