MVL swimmers competed at Sectionals two standout Muskingum students advance to State Competition

Several MVL swim teams competed in the 2025 East District Sectional Swim Meet on Saturday, February 8th at Steubenville High School.  In the first event of the day, the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay, John Glenn’s team of Kenzie Welch, Sophia Novaria, Lily Jefferis, and Ginger Blagg took 10th place. The team of Claire Heiney, Bailey Paskell, Grace Rush, and Olivia Rusnak from Maysville followed in 11th place. 

Tri-Valley took top marks in the Boys 200 Yard Medley with the team of AJ Lawler, Owen Harney, Carter Dinan, and Coen Fuhriman swimming in at a time of 1:47.27.  John Glenn’s team of Jackson Dry, Liam Clinard, Brody Tuttle, and Conner Smith took tenth place. 

Liela Hawk from Maysville was the first-place winner in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:07.46. In the same event, Genna Rose from West Muskingum High School took 30th place.

In the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle Dallin Stirling swam in third place for Tri-Valley, followed by Owen Rusnak for Maysville taking fourth place, Sam Wegner also grabbed fifth place for the Scotties with teammate Aiden Lentz right behind in seventh.  Chris Wilson from Rosecrans was in the 17th-place position.

Tri-Valley’s AJ Lawler was the second-place finisher for the Boys 200 Yard IM, and teammates Garrett Stirling and Owen Harney followed in fourth and fifth places respectively.  Adam Hustey was the 11th-place finisher for Tri-Valley.

For the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle Lily Jefferis from John Glenn was the ninth-place finisher while Reese Lambert took 12th place for Philo High School, Kenzie Welch finished 21st for John Glenn.

Coen Fuhriman was the 8th place finisher for Tri-Valley in the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle in 10th place was Liam Clinard from John Glenn.

Grace Rush was the 7th place swimmer in the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly followed by Lily Jefferis from John Glenn at 9th.

In the Boys 100 Yard Butterfly Aiden Lentz swam in at 4th for Tri-Valley, with Brody Tuttle from John Glenn close behind in 6th.

Carter Dinan finished 2nd in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle for Tri-Valley, with teammate Dallin Stirling taking 4th, and Owen Rusnak from Maysville in 5th.

Leila Hawk grabbed second place in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle for Maysville. Scottie Sam Wegner was the top finisher for the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:34.32.  Teammate Garrett Stirling finished 3rd in the same event.

AJ Lawler finished first in the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke for Tri-Valley with a time of 54.02.  Owen Harney took 2nd place for the Scotties in the Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke while his teammate Coen Fuhriman was the 4th place finisher.

In the final event, the Tri-Valley team of Carter Dinan, Garrett Stirling, Dallin Stirling, and AJ Lawler were the top finishers in the Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:34.69.

For the Season Tri-Valley took the MVL swimming title and swimmer AJ Lawler qualified for D2 State Competition in the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke and the Boys 200 Yard IM.

Leila Hawk from Maysville qualified for the D2 State Competition in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle.  

The Division 2 State Championships will be held at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton on Thursday and Friday, February 20th and 21st.
