Vs Thiel (3/01)
The Tomcats rolled into town on Saturday, to a very blustery cold day at Muskingum University. The Muskies got off to a great start, taking a 5 – 0 lead, including three goals scored by Grant Webster. The second quarter saw Muskingum pump out seven more goals while Thiel squeezed one shot into the goal to end the half with Muskingum 12 – Thiel 1.
Back on the field, the Muskies were not about to slow down, as they continued to punish the Tomcats with shot after shot, taking a 20 – 4 lead by the end of the third period. In the final minutes of the game, the Muskies’ defense shut out Thiel while allowing their players time to pop in six more goals to end the game with a massive 26 – 4 win.
The game boasted the second-most goals in a game in program history with the most shots in a game in program history with 93. Also, they had the most face-offs won in a game in program history with 26.
Evan Cosgrove led the Muskies with five goals and seven ground balls. Grant Webster had four goals and three assists, as well as eight ground balls. Owen Winkler went 23-of-28 on face-offs for the Muskies and grabbed 10 ground balls.
Vs Bethany (2/26)
The Little Muskies hosted the Bethany Bisons on Wednesday night in their home opener. Right from the start, the Muskies took control of the game, jumping out to a 7 – 0 lead as the buzzer sounded. The Bisons came to life in the second period with three goals in the quarter, but the Muskies had five of their own to take a 12 3 advantage into halftime.
As the game resumed, Muskingum shut out the Bisons for the second period in the game while piling on another four goals to end the third up 16 – 3. The final period was a draw, with each team landing a goal, but that didn’t matter to the Muskies as they took the 17 – 4 victory.
Senior Drew Davis had a team-high of four goals and added a ground ball. Senior Grant Webster had two goals, two assists, and two ground balls. Sophomore Evan Cosgrove had two goals, three assists, and five ground balls.
Vs Wabash (2/22)
The Fighting Muskies traveled to Cincinnati on Saturday to take on Wabash at a neutral location. Muskingum started the game off with a score by Dillon Caudill in the first period to take a 1 – 0 lead. From there, the Little Giants took over, scoring five points before the end of the first period to take the lead at 5 – 1. In the second period, Tyler Workman grabbed a goal with an assist by Grant Webster. Workman followed up with an unassisted goal in the second, but Wabash added two more goals of their own to end the first half up 7 – 3.
Back on the field for the second half, Workman went to task with the first goal of the period off of an Adin Mondul assist before an all-out scoring frenzy by the Little Giants to end the quarter with a 10 – 4 advantage. Chipper Lacobucci landed a goal partway into the fourth quarter, followed by one final goal by Workman assisted by Drew Davis. Wabash added two more goals by Quinn Fitzgerald and Jake Pippen to take the win with a 12 – 6 score.
