Jake Birkhimer donates custom toy box to Dresden American Legion

A beautifully crafted toy box with a patriotic theme was donated to the Dresden American Legion for their children’s playroom by local resident and talented craftsman Jake Birkhimer.

Birkhimer was contacted by the American Legion who shared their need for toy storage. “Jake was on it immediately with tons of ideas and (was) all excited about it,” shared Janis Clark of the American Legion. “We are just so grateful and appreciate his talent and his willingness to do this for us.”

The custom-made American Legion toy box is larger than the typical 36″ long by 16″ by 16″ boxes that he normally makes. He wanted to make sure the toy box was large enough to meet the needs of the American Legion. In thinking about how it was going to be used, he thought to craft the box out of pine so it would be lighter to move, especially when loaded with toys.

Birkhimer has been making custom personalized toy boxes since 2001. During the Christmas season, he averages about 60 toy boxes. He has also made benches, coat racks, potato bins, and bread boxes and has even refurnished tables and chairs. “I like doing it as a hobby for fun,” said Birkheimer.
