Vs. Marietta (4/2)
On Wednesday, the Fighting Muskies men’s Lacrosse team traveled to Marietta to play the Pioneers. Despite battling hard, Marietta outpaced the Muskies in the first period, taking a 3 – 1 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second period, Muskingum landed two more shots on the net but the Pioneers doubled that effort to take a 7 – 3 lead into the halftime break.
Back on the field, Marietta came out of the locker room fired up for the second half and landed shot after shot while the Fighting Muskies tried to keep up, but with a 3 – 6 advantage on the quarter, Marietta ended the period up 13 – 6. The Muskies pushed back in the last quarter of the game, landing six goals of their own, but with the damage already done, they were not able to overcome the Pioneers, and they headed home with a 16 – 12 loss.
Vs. Baldwin Wallace (3/29)
Saturday’s trip to Tressel Field in Berea, Ohio, was one the Fighting Muskies would just as soon forget. From the moment they stepped on the field, the Yellow Jackets went right to task, shutting out the Muskies’ offense and taking a huge 7 – 0 lead before the beginning of the second period. The second period was even more difficult for Muskingum as they couldn’t find a way to shut down the Yellow Jackets’ offense, who built a 15 – 0 lead before halftime.
Opening the second half was a mirror image of the first period as Baldwin Wallace dominated the field and found the net seven more times with a 22 – 0 lead heading into the final period of play. Muskingum gathered their strength and landed two shots in the final quarter but it was too late as the Yellow Jackets took a huge 25 – 2 win.
Vs. Mount Union (3/26)
New Concord hosted the Mount Union Purple Raiders on Wednesday. The Raiders stayed true to their names as they pummeled the Muskies in the first few minutes ot the game, taking a quick 6 – 0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Muskingum battled back with two landed goals in the second quarter, but the Raiders grabbed three more to take a 9 – 2 lead into the intermission.
The Muskies fell just shy of matching the intensity of the Raiders in the third quarter as they battled out a 4 – 5 scoring period with their opponents, but Mount Union led 14 – 6 heading into the fourth period. The Raiders kept their edge as they went 2 – 1 on goals in the fourth quarter and took the entire game with a 16 – 7 point spread.
