The hundreds of people waiting in a line that wrapped around the play area near the Cinemark Theater in the Colony Square Mall were not there for the latest box office smash film this time, and no, a celebrity had not entered the building, although the Easter Bunny has been frequenting the mall. The excitement was all due to a grand opening event for the latest retail store to open in the mall, Bin Mania.
The discount store that packs a lot of savings into its 17,000 square feet of retail space offers a shopping experience like no other in Zanesville.
“The really cool thing about Bin Mania is that we dump a whole bunch of items that are returned and overstocked from all kinds of major retailers into these bins, and those bins, on certain days, are certain prices,” explained owner Ben Davis. “So Friday, we fill those bins, and it is all $9 each, no matter that retail value. Then on Saturday, it drops to $7 each, then Monday, we put nothing new in the bins, and it continuously drops. So Monday it’s $4, Tuesday it’s $3, Wednesday it’s $2, and Thursday it’s a dollar! Then we also have shelves where everything is priced as marked, and we do have a challenge on those shelves. That means if you find it at a major retailer cheaper, I’m going to match it and take 15% off below their price to make sure you walk out these doors with the best possible deal at any time.”
There are 40 bins to sift through and hundreds of feet of shelving that hold massive amounts of wallet-saving finds. The energy is off the charts between the infectious enthusiasm exuding from store owner Davis and the high-tempo music jamming through the store’s speakers. Over 200 shoppers gathered outside the store on the morning of the store’s opening day. A steady flow of savings seekers popped in later on for their chance to find the best bargains on popular items like clothing, toys, electronics, furniture, household items, and more!
“I couldn’t ask for a better turnout, and I can’t say thank you enough to all these people behind me, all the great staff that helped me put this together,” said Davis. “I mean it has been an uphill battle to get this open, but now that we’re open and we’ve had that big of a turnout, I can’t wait to see the support of the Zanesville community and I can’t wait to give back to that community too for supporting us so strong.”
The crowds of shoppers did not slow down during the ribbon cutting event hosted by the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, just an hour after the store opened. Colony Square Mall management was also there to support Davis and the opening of his new location.
“We are so excited to welcome Bin Mania to Colony Square Mall in Zanesville,” said Colony Square Mall General Manager Jessica Brailer. “This is their third location in Ohio, and we feel that this is something that is going to serve our community well. They offer great deals, great name brands at wonderful prices to meet the needs of the community, and something fun. He [owner, Ben Davis] refers to it as ‘Ohio’s best treasure hunt’. So this is something fun that you can continue to come to, and we are just really excited to be part of their adventure here.”
Davis is excited about his decision to open Bin Mania in the Colony Square Mall. “What drew us here is the fact that this mall is becoming more mom and pop family oriented, and I absolutely love to be part of that, and the space that is provided here is absolutely perfect for what we are doing.”
