Upwards of 200 volunteers, some of whom have been involved for over 30 years, help to make the Carr Center Cake Auction an annual success. The popular event will take place in the Colony Square Mall, with the People’s Choice Awards kicking everything off at 5:00 PM on April 22, 2025. Over the next two days, April 23 and 24, beautifully decorated cakes by local bakers will be auctioned off along with the incentives that go with them. The action will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days.
There are 320 available spots for cakes each year, and this year, like past years, those cakes are paired with generous donations for incentives such as sports passes, gift cards, rounds of golf, advertising packages, tickets to events, vouchers for services, passes to attractions, massive discounts on services, memberships, and a wide assortment of items.
“There aren’t enough words to describe how grateful we are for the continued support of our community,” said Katie Graham, Executive Director of The Carr Center. We love what we do at The Carr Center. We just don’t serve our clients; we love them like family. We care for them as well as their families, and without the support of our community, we wouldn’t be able to do that.”
The Carr Center serves as a non-profit organization that provides vital programs to children and adults in Muskingum County. Some of those programs include CPR Classes, Adult Day Health Services (provides Adult Day Care to individuals who may require some supervision), Speech Therapy, Special Riders (provides individuals with severe physical disabilities the opportunity to ride horses), Safety Town (provides children ages 4 and 5 with a special opportunity to learn about traffic, fire and other safety issues), Kinder Camp, Support Group, Safe Sitter®(prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting), and Stop the Bleed.
“A successful cake auction means another year The Carr Center can continue to provide services to our community,” stated Graham. “Serving over 600 families per year across 10 programs, the funds directly support each program and, in return, our community.”
The People’s Choice awards will be held on Tuesday, April 22, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at the Colony Square Mall. Cakes can be voted on all day long, but the award ceremony sponsored by North Valley Bank will not begin until 5:00 PM. Besides casting your vote for your favorite cake, you can also view all of the incentives provided by area businesses and organizations ahead of the auction.
