Vs. Licking Heights (4/28)
On Monday afternoon at Jay Payton Field, the Blue Devils were facing Licking Valley. The first inning went on without a score from either team. Logan Goldsmith started off a scoring rally for Zanesville with a single to right field that brought home Noah Darnes. Three more singles in the inning put the Blue Devils in the lead with a 5 – 0 advantage. Zanesville picked up two in the bottom of the 3rd inning, and another run in the bottom of the 4th to lead the game 8 – 0. Licking Valley finally got on the board in the top of the 5th inning with two runs, but the Blue Devils answered back with two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, which would end the scoring with Zanesville taking the 10 – 2 win.
Vs. Utica (4/23)
On the road on Wednesday, the Blue Devils faltered in a battle against the Utica Redskins in a game that was tied at 2 in the top of the 3rd inning before the Redskins opened up the batting range and fired off four runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Utica popped up three more runs in the bottom of the 5th. Zanesville tried to recover in the 6th inning, but only pulled off one run followed by the Redskins taking another three-run inning to cap the score and lock in the win for Utica at 12 – 3.
Vs. Granville (4/21 – 4/22)
On Tuesday in Granville, game two against the Blue Aces was on point as they flew out to a quick 6 – 0 lead after just two innings. Zanesville had a pair of runs in the top of the 4th, but Granville answered back with five runs in the bottom of the inning and one to boot in the bottom of the 5th to end the game up 12 – 2.
Monday night’s game was on Blue Devil turf, but that couldn’t protect them from the onslaught of hits that would come their way as the Blue Aces zipped to an 8 – 0 lead after the top of the 2nd inning. Zanesville couldn’t get in a run against the staunch Granville defenses, and after tacking on a run in the top of the 4th and 5th innings, the Blue Aces returned to home base with a 10 – 0 shutout against Zanesville.
Vs Madison Comprehensive doubleheader (4/19)
Madison lit up the scoreboard in the top of the 1st, just before the Blue Devils stepped up to the plate and fired off run after run in a six-run inning. The Rams came back in the 2nd inning, trying to rally, but only managed to narrow the deficit to two runs. Zanesville built the lead back up in the bottom of the inning with three more runs of their own and held the Rams scoreless in the top of the 3rd to come back and throw on three more runs. After that, scoring stalled out with both teams playing out the next four innings to leave the Blue Devils with a 12 – 4 victory.
Madison Comprehensive came to Jay Payton on Saturday to battle the Blue Devils, and they started off strong in game one with two runs in the top of the 1st to take a quick 2 – 0 lead. Zanesville knocked it down to a one-run lead in the bottom of the inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Devils tied up the game and took the lead with three runs to jump ahead 4 – 2. In the top of the 3rd, Madison grabbed an RBI to narrow the gap, but Zanesville was not finished as they threw two runs on the fire in the bottom of the 4th and again in the bottom of the 6th innings to end the game with an 8 – 3 win over the Rams.
Vs. Mount Vernon (4/17)
The Jackets were in Zanesville on Thursday to face the Devils and they opened up the show with a run in the top of the 1st and 2nd innings to be the 2 – 0 leaders right off of the bat,.tacking on five more runs by the time the Blue Devils hit the board with one run in the bottom of the 4th to trail 7 – 1. But that is where the buck stopped for Zanesville as they struggled through the next three innings while Mount Vernon added four more runs to ride away with an 11 – 1 win.
