Cinderella graces the stage at Tri-Valley

The Tri-Valley Drama Club presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella Enchanted Edition March 1st through 3rd at the Tri-Valley High School Cafetorium.

The Tri-Valley Drama Club’s advisor, Marley Kennedy, has directed nine shows over the last five years with Tri-Valley. That breaks down to five straight plays (plays without music) and three musicals, including Cinderella.

“I had originally chosen a different musical for this spring, but it was a Jr. Version. I felt that after doing the full version of High School Musical last Spring and again giving the kids more content this Fall with Pride & Prejudice, that they had outgrown a Jr. show. To be honest, when picking shows, I tend to choose with my heart, and that usually means shows that are significant to my childhood,” said Kennedy. “While Disney made Cinderella the best-known and loved Princess, Rodgers and Hammerstein went there first. The R&H music is so fun and lively, it elevates everyone’s favorite princess. Then, coming back to choosing shows that have a significance to me, the Whitney Houston and Brandy version of Cinderella is probably my favorite adaptation of all time. Once I had decided to go a different direction with the musical for this Spring, I knew that we had the talent to take on Whitney and Brandy. I am excited to watch my kids bring this truly enchanting version to a new and younger audience.”

Lionel (Hayden Weck) tries to find who the glass slipper belongs to as Prince Christopher (Ethan Nelson) anxiously watches. Step sister Joy (Olivia Jenkins) hopes the shoe will fit as her mother (Amelia Koenig) and sister (Caramia Gross) wait in excitement.

The first show of the night is a charity show supporting AIM Outreach. Instead of purchasing a ticket, admission is one canned food item.

“I have worked with Jason Watson for the last four years, and I have come to really respect and admire his mission with AIM Outreach,” Kennedy stated. “For us, bringing a canned food item as payment for a ticket is the perfect way to promote community, philanthropy, and make it more affordable for families to come see the show. We are excited that Drama Club is in a position where we can share the spotlight, so to speak, and give back to the community that has supported us throughout these years of growth.”

Tickets are available at the door. Showtimes are Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. (Charity Show), May 2 at 7:00 p.m., and May 3 at 12:30 and 7:00 p.m. This show has two casts. The first and last shows will feature the same cast with preshow and intermission music provided by Nathan Hustey. For the second and third shows, some of the main roles will be filled by different cast members, with preshow and intermission music provided by Katelyn Dotson.
