West Muskingum softball hits a four-game winning streak after downing Tri-Valley

Vs. Tri-Valley (4/25)

Dresden’s Scotties team headed over the hills to West Muskingum on Friday for a game that started out on the wrong foot for the Lady Tornadoes as Tri-Valley landed a run in each of the first two innings while holding back the West M batters to take a 2 – 0 lead over the home team. In the top of the 4th inning, the Lady Dawgs hit a double, a single, and a two-run homer to jump out 6 – 0.  In the bottom of the inning, Calie Smith hit a double to left field to run in Huey and Hammer, followed by a two-run homer from Kadie Bare to end the inning, closing the gap down to a two-run deficit with Tri-Valley up 6 – 4. After a quick no-score inning for the Scotties, Antonetz stepped up as the first batter to hit a home run over the left field fence, putting the Tornadoes within one run of a draw. Two empty innings for Tri-Valley gave the Tornadoes another chance, and in the bottom of the 7th inning, they took it with a last-second two-run homer from Gabbi Hammer to grab the walk-off 7 – 6 victory for the West Muskingum.

Vs. Maysville (4/22, 4/21)

West Muskingum hosted the Lady Panthers on Tuesday. After holding their visitors runless in the top of the 1st inning, West M loaded three runs into the bottom of the inning to take a 3 – 0 lead. The second inning started off with some skillful pitching from Antonetz as she walked the first batter but trapped the second into a fly out, and the third batter of the inning hit into a double play. In the 4th inning, both teams scored a run with Maysville popping out two more runs in the top of the 5th before a six-run rally from the Lady Tornadoes in the bottom of the inning to take a 10 to 3 lead. Maysville managed a couple more runs in the top of the 6th before getting shut down by Antonetz, giving West M the 10 – 5 win.

In Maysville on Monday, the Lady Tornadoes started game one against the Panthers with both teams going without a score in the first two innings of the game before the Tornadoes lit up their bats in the top of the 3rd for three runs to take charge of the game. A single from Mitton allowed Maysville to narrow the deficit to 3 – 2 by the end of the inning. Foster nabbed an RBI in the top of the 4th to lead 4 – 2. In the top of the 5th, Smith hit a two-run homer to left field, and just like that, the Lady Tornadoes led by a score of 6 – 2. Antonetz stepped up later in the inning to hit a two-run homer of her own to push the score to 8. Maysville had a single RBI in the bottom of the 5th before West M was back at bat in a big way with Kadie Bare slamming a three-run homer over the left field fence to start an eight-run rally in the top of the 6th inning to lead 18 – 3. Johnson doubled for Maysville, but the Panthers couldn’t catch up, and the Lady Tornadoes won 18 – 5.

Vs. River View (4/18)

The Lady Tornadoes laid a track all the way to Warsaw on Friday, coming into town blowing down two runs on singles by Hammer and Daylee Foster to take the lead right away. In the top of the 2nd, Peyton Brown stole home for the 3 – 0 lead. In the top of the 3rd, Huey singled for an RBI, Calie Smith grounded out to allow Huey to score, and Hammer stole home to lead by 6 as they moved into the bottom of the inning. Lechner homered for River View in the bottom of the 5th to finally hit the scoreboard, but they still trailed 9 – 3. Antonetz answered back in the top of the 6th with a single homer to left field.  The Lady Black Bears managed one more run in the bottom of the 6th, but West Muskingum wrapped up the game with their final two runs to take the 12 – 4 win.

Vs. John Glenn (4/17)

The Lil’ Muskies docked in Tornado country on Thursday to play West Muskingum. The John Glenn batters didn’t take the bait in the top of the 1st inning as they threw up a three-run homer by Matheney to take the 3 – 0 lead. Gabbi Hammer tried to help start a rally in the bottom of the 1st, but only managed one RBI on a ground out to third base. The Muskies held the 3 – 1 lead and added four more runs to it in the top of the 3rd and 4th innings. Now leading by six, the Muskies landed two runs in the top of the 5th, one in the top of the 6th, and the final four runs in the top of the 7th inning, including a pair of doubles to take home a 14 – 1 win.
