Wolfie’s Campground dedicates plaque honoring founding owner Dave Wolfe

Wolfie’s Campground, a Good Sam Park, held a ribbon cutting and plaque dedication ceremony on Tuesday, April 29. The park is located at 101 Buckeye Drive in Zanesville, across from Riverside Park.

Wolfie’s Campground has been a beloved camping destination for 36 years. Offering family fun and a place to create memories, whether it be swimming in the saltwater heated swimming pool, letting your imagination run wild as you “set sail on an adventure” on the pirate-themed playground, challenging opponents to a game in the game room, or taking a relaxing walk along the walking trail, memories are still being created at the campground to this day thanks to new owners Kevin and Chalom Strope.

“Although each owner over the years has added something special to make it their own, there is something we’ve all had in common, and that’s the dream of owning a campground,” said Kevin.

The Stropes have been running the operation for nearly three seasons and have made some additions to the park, making it their own. New this year will be gem mining (opening Memorial Day), an RC off-road course, and disc golf!

“One of the things that’s been commonly asked since we’ve been here, ‘Why did you want to have a campground?'” Kevin shared. “While there are several reasons, the main reason I tell people is ‘I live where people want to vacation’.”

“Over the year’s the city of Zanesville has been a big supporter of the campground, going back to the early days when it was first started by Mr. Dave Wolfe. So, we wanted to get involved with the community when we moved to Zanesville and took over the operations of the park, and being a member of the Chamber has really excelled that,” Kevin explained. “We’ve met a lot of local business owners, we’ve been working with the Chamber team, who have been great in helping us promote the park and get connected with the community, as well as give back. We host different organizations to do events here, and we’re certainly open to organizations coming and using our facilities.”

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Strope’s and Wolfie’s Campground to the Chamber with a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the park. Directly after the ribbon was cut, the Strope’s unveiled a plaque that was placed at the large cement base for the flag pole near the park office and camp store. The plaque reads, “In honor of our founder, David M. Wolfe. One man’s dream has become generations of family memories. Thank you for your passion and dedication. Est. 1989.”

“Despite having dreams, very few individuals take concrete steps to fulfil those dreams. Dave was certainly a dreamer and a visionary. He dedicated more than ten years of his life chasing his dream,” said Kevin. “The campground would not be here today without his dedication.”

Wolfie’s Campground is open year-round, although certain amenities are seasonal. The family-friendly park offers pull-through full-hookup 50-amp electric RV camping spots, tent camping, and cabin rentals. On-site laundry, restrooms, showers, a picnic shelter, as well as various activities including corn hole, basketball, and horseshoes are also available on the grounds. Visitors can also enjoy pickleball, fishing, boating, and the dog park at nearby Riverside Park. Day passes are available for people wanting to swim in the pool or enjoy a shorter visit to Wolfie’s Campground.

“Because we are privately owned, personalized service is what we offer. That’s different from many campgrounds in the area that are more commercialized,” explained Chalom. “We walk around, we know our campers, we get to know them, and they come back. We host many kids’ activities as well.”

Kevin added, “If you are looking for a quick family escape, a digital detox. We love hosting families and folks that are just looking to get away and don’t have to go too far.”
