John Glenn baseball finishes season with 7-19 record overall

Vs. Indian Creek (5/28)

John Glenn lost to Indian Creek in the District Semifinal game. The final score was 22-3.

Vs. Newcomerstown (5/27)

The Lil’ Muskies traveled North to Newcomerstown on Tuesday to play the Trojans.  In the opening inning, Carter Merry hit a single line-drive to left field to allow Reid Howard to score, taking a 1 – 0 lead. A couple of plays later, Justin Stambush walked, allowing Owen Edward to reach home base to give John Glenn a 2 – 0 lead.  The Trojans lasted just three quick at-bats before the Muskies kicked off the 2nd inning with a three-run homer from Howard, bringing home Charlie Cameron and Wylee Woodard, boosting their score to 5 – 0 over Newcomerstown. The Trojans hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly. John Glenn quickly answered back with a single from Howard to right field to bring in Woodard. Owen Edwards doubled later in the inning to score Howard. A single from Stambush brought in Townsend and Edwards, upping the Muskies’ score to 9 – 1. A couple of wild pitches led to Kris Wise and Stambush scoring, ending the top of the 4th up 11 – 1. The two teams continued to battle through the game until the bottom of the 5th inning, when the game was called, giving the Muskies the 11 – 1 victory!

Vs. Maysville (5/20)

New Concord hosted the visiting Maysville Panthers on a very rainy Tuesday.  Both teams were scoreless in the first inning, but the Panthers hit the board first in the top of the 2nd inning when Deal singled to center, driving in Parmer, and Hague scored on the throw. Shreve scored for Maysville on a ground out by Gifford, giving them the 3 – 0 advantage early on. John Glenn was able to answer back in the bottom of the 3rd when Wise doubled to left driving in Howard and Townsend, in the very next at-bat Stambush hit a line drive to right field bringing in Wise and Edwards to not only tie the game but to jump out ahead by one with a 4 – 3 lead. Kayson Hoff singled in the bottom of the 5th to bring in Edwards to jump the lead up to 5 – 3 Muskies. Howard scored on a single from Edwards in the bottom of the 6th, followed by Edwards and Townsend scoring on a single from Stambush to jump out to an 8 – 3 lead.  The Panthers were able to grab a final run in the top of the 7th inning when Fisher scored on a wild pitch after stealing third base, but Maysville still fell short and the Lil’ Muskies took the 8 – 4 win.

Vs. Licking Valley (5/19)

The Muskies hosted the Licking Valley Panthers on Monday at John Glenn High School in New Concord.  John Glenn took the lead to start the game with a run in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the Panthers came back for a four-run rally in the top of the 2nd inning to jump out to a 4 – 1 lead, followed by three more runs in the top of the 3rd to lead 7 – 1.  After the Panthers tacked on another run in the top of the 4th, the Muskies came together to pump out a four-run inning to draw closer, only trailing 8 – 5 at that point. The Muskies landed another RBI in the bottom of the 5th to narrow the deficit to 8 – 6, but the top of the 6th brought three more runs for the Panthers, and despite grabbing one final run in the bottom of the 7th, the Lil’ Muskies fell to Licking Valley 11 – 7.
