Boys Varsity Soccer – Alumni Scrimmage

“The past supporting the future, the old sharpening the new.  The best coming back for more, the many preparing the few.”  was the statement proudly displayed on the back of the Alumni jerseys at the Tri-Valley Boys Varsity Scrimmage against an all Alumni team, and they stood up to every word.

Fighting through the heat of one of the hottest days in August the two teams were relentlessly sprinting up and down the field in pursuit of the win.  The Varsity boys team consisted of 20 guys with an unprecedented 13 of those being returning seniors, while the Alumni team had players ranging from just graduated to 45 years of age and representing Marietta, Defiance, and Muskingum Colleges to name a few.  While temperatures were running high during the game, tempers certainly were not!  Coach Isaac Bush stated, “Having the Alumni team playing the Varsity boys for their first outing is good for the team, it promotes good camaraderie, and helps to raise the spirit of the team and we want them to keep that spirit throughout the season”.

At halftime, the teams were tied 2-2 until the Varsity team pulled ahead 3-2 with about 30 minutes remaining in the half.  It was definitely an action-packed, exciting game to watch, with good control of the ball on both sides of the field.  With just three and a half minutes remaining in the game, the Tri-Valley Varsity team ended the game with their final score bringing the total to 4-2 over the Alumni team.

When asked, the Alumni players said that playing against the current Varsity team was “exhausting”  and that “Tri-Valley has a strong Varsity squad this year and they are looking forward to a great season!”
