Submitted by, Isaac Bush, Head Boys Soccer Coach

Tri-Valley Scotties and River View Black Bears faced off in an epic match-up this evening. The 2017 #2 ranked ECOL Champions played a competitive match against the #3 ranked MVL Champs. A rivalry from the past which is rising again in 2020 as River View, among other schools, re-enters the MVL.

Play started with high pace from both teams. Possession was split, but Tri-Valley came out with the first goal from a dangerous play called inside RV’s penalty box. Zane Paisley connected with a composed Mason Dunn who found an impossible hole in the well-guarded goal line to finish the indirect opportunity in the 11th minute. RV answered back in the 19th minute with an uncontested run through the middle that led to their first goal of the game. The second half started with strong physical play, but Tri-Valley maintained their composure and held consistent possession throughout the remainder of the match. RV’s chances came mostly from over the top, direct play. RV found the back of the net with a header in the 52nd minute off of a great corner kick placed just above the keeper’s hands. Tri-Valley worked the ball around and Mason Dunn found the well-trained feet of Zane Paisley who juked his way through two defenders and the goalkeeper to knot the game at 2-2 in the 54th minute. The remainder of the game was physical with battles for the ball from both contenders. Tri-Valley posted 14 shots while RV fired 8 shots. Tri-Valley Varsity moves to 1-0-1 in the pre-season and will face Highbury FC and New Philadelphia in the remainder of their pre-season play.

Tri-Valley Junior Varsity played well with a strong time of possession. They posted a 3-0 win over River View with one goal from Tyler Yingling and two goals from Brady Baker. Carter Wehrum posted one assist on the evening. Tri-Valley Junior Varsity is at 1-1-0 on the preseason and will face Highbury FC and New Philadelphia in the remainder of their pre-season play.
