Vs. Marietta (4/1)
The Blue Devils hosted the Marietta Tigers on Tuesday at Jay Payton Field. The Tigers jumped out to a 5 – 0 lead in the top of the 1st inning after runs by Goeller, Chidester, and Loughry. In the bottom of the 1st, Greyson Goins grounded out, driving in Mahki Murray and closing the gap down to 5 – 1 Marietta. The Tigers scored five more runs in the top of the 3rd inning to lead 10 – 1. Caleb Underwood hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Goins. Solomon Norris hit a triple in the next at bat to allow Caleb Hollins to score, narrowing the gap to 10 – 3 Marietta. The Tigers piled four more runs on their total in the top of the 4th inning, starting the bottom of the 4th up 14 – 3. Zanesville’s Noah Dames grounded into a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the 5th to allow Underwood to score the final run for the Blue Devils who lost to Marietta 14 – 4.
Vs. Philo (3/31)
Zanesville Blue Devils traveled to nearby Duncan Falls to play the Philo Electrics on Monday. Caleb Underwood started off the scoring for the game with a double that drove in Caleb Hollins and Greyson Goins for a 2 – 0 lead. Tyson Kimble singled in the top of the 2nd inning to drive home Noah Dames for the third run of the game. Mahki Murray singled in his at bat to drive in Kimble. Hollins singled to allow Goins to score and the Blue Devils end the top of the 2nd up 5 – 0. Philo came back in the bottom of the 3rd to grab two runs off of a single by Phillip, but the Blue Devils still led 5 – 2. Solomon singled out to drive in Caleb Hollins in the top of the 5th inning, followed by Underwood scoring on an error to jump the lead for Zanesville up to 7 – 2. Hollins scored on an error in the top of the 6th inning, followed by Underwood running across the plate, driven home by a single from Norris to lead 9 – 2. In a huge rally in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Electrics landed five runs before being shut down by Mohler but the Blue Devils barely held onto their lead at 9 – 7. Singles by Goins and Murray brought in the final two runs for Zanesville in the top of the 7th as they took the 11 – 7 victory over Philo.
