Bishop Rosecrans girls soccer team faces big upset in second round of postseason

In Zanesville on October 20, 2025, the Bishop Rosecrans Lady Bishops gave every ounce of effort in a tense Division V East District semifinal matchup, but despite their grit and determination, they fell 2-1 to the Catholic Central Crusaders in a game that came down to the final whistle.

From the opening kickoff, the Lady Bishops controlled much of the tempo. Their midfield pressed forward with quick passes and relentless energy, earning several early corners and testing the Crusaders’ keeper.

Despite dominating possession early, Rosecrans found themselves trailing midway through the first half after a loose rebound in the box gave the Crusaders an opportunity they converted. It was a tough break for a Bishop defense that had otherwise been organized and confident.

The Lady Bishops came out of the locker room focused on firing shots from distance. The forwards repeatedly challenged the Crusaders’ back line, forcing their goalkeeper to make several key saves.

But momentum swung against Rosecrans again when Catholic Central doubled its lead on a counterattack midway through the half, slipping one past the outstretched hands of the Bishops’ keeper.

Still, the Lady Bishops refused to fold. With just minutes remaining, Rosecrans clawed one back, capitalizing on a loose ball. The stadium roared as the Bishops poured forward in search of a quick tying shot, but time ran out before they could find the net again.

The upset was hard for the Bishops, who came off a playoff opening bruiser of a match against Shenandoah on October 13th, where they dominated a shutout game that ended with the Bishops up 5 – 0.
