Zanesville football ended season with a loss on the road and at home

Vs. Licking Heights (10/24)

The Hornets traveled to Sulsberger Stadium on Friday to face the Blue Devils on their home turf. Unfortunately for the Devils, home territory didn’t give them as much of an advantage as they had hoped, with Licking Heights jumping out ahead early on with a 32-yard touchdown pass to start off the scoring that would put them up 12 – 0 nearing the end of the first quarter. Zanesville pulled out a big play in the second period, landing a massive 69-yard touchdown to try to shave off the lead, but they went to the locker rooms down 24 – 6.

When the teams regrouped on the field, Zanesville pumped out a nice 28-yard touchdown pass to jump up to 14 points after the two-point conversion. The scoring went stale for both teams after that until the fourth quarter, when the Hornets stepped on the gas and added the final six points to their score to win the game 30 – 14.

Vs. Granville (10/17)

At Granville on Friday, the Blue Devils were trampled by the Blue Aces as they flew by on the field to blast out front to a 28 – 0 lead in the first quarter. The second quarter was more eventful, and even though Zanesville made a play with a conversion to put eight points on the board, Granville punished the Devils, amassing a 45 – 8 lead by halftime.

With the clock running after the intermission, there wasn’t much time for either team to make a move, but Granville kept their steam and rocketed from the 45 points they started the second half with, to their final tally of 52 – 8 and a victory against Zanesville.
