Record-setting performances were the highlights of a dual meet hosted by Newark High School last Wednesday evening at the Licking County Family YMCA (LCFYMCA) in Newark. As a sidelight, it was also the first swim meet for the Scotties in a “meter” pool (as opposed to a pool measured in feet).
Once again, Tri-Valley was able to out-point their competition and defeated Newark by a score of 145-42, Heath by a score of 136-51 and Licking Valley by a score of 160-8. Both the girls team as well as the boys squad were victorious against each of their rivals.
Continuing to roll on was sprinter Caroline Holmes who bested a record she already holds in the 100 Meter Backstroke as she cut another second off her previous time to touch the pad at 1:10:48. Holmes was about 9 seconds ahead of her competition from Newark High School. Teammate Marissa Sees finished the event in third place overall.For the boys, Seniors Eric Allen and Keegan Bumpus finished first and second in their meter Backstroke event.
To wrap up the excitement, the Senior foursome of Bumpus, Ben Jacoby, Chad Bell and Allen put together four excellent relay legs (highlighted by an impressive 100 meters by Chad Bell in a time of 1:00:76) to eclipse a record set in 2003 by the team of Steve Paisley, Devon Liles, Sam Allen and Ed Rector, to establish a new 400 Meter Freestyle Relay record.

Larissa Lynch was not finished yet. She captured first place in the 200 Meter Free while Chad Bell and Mason McDaniel were locking down second and third for the boys. In the meantime,
A total of nine Tri-Valley girls swam the 50 Meter Free led by Katya Liber, Caitlynn Wriston, Eve Davis, Mariah Clark and Star Jacobs. Eight boys swam the 50 Meter event as Chad Bell again made his presence felt as he and Mikal Blackstone finished first and second in this very quick event followed by Dittmar, Jacobs-Bell, Kline, Merry, Sean Lacy and Blaine Cox.
Clare Waggle was the top finisher for Tri-Valley in the 200 IM followed by Marissa Sees. Keegan Bumpus had an impressive swim for the boys as he placed first in the 200 IM followed by Tracy Beale.
Butterfly events were also dominated by Scotty swimmers. Caroline Holmes finished first in the 100 Meter event followed by Seryna Mann. Seniors Eric Allen and Ben Jacoby came in 1-2 in the Butterfly event for
Coach Christi Holmes was pleased with the overall effort. “Great job…swimming in meters for the first time this season.”
