Dresden Suspension Bridge Coalition Formed

In an April issue of the Dresden Buzz, we published a submitted article laying out the options discussed for the Dresden Suspension Bridge following a public meeting with ODOT. ODOT recommended proceeding with the removal of the structure unless a coalition is formed by August 1st to take ownership and rehabilitate the structure.

Shortly thereafter, a public group Facebook page was established, “Dresden Suspension Bridge Coalition” by none other than Rachel Longaberger. As most are aware the Longaberger family has been instrumental in the betterment of Dresden for many years.

The group which has grown to over 350 members, is working toward the common goal of preserving the Dresden Suspension Bridge.

Rachel recently posted an update on the group page stating, “Our small group has just begun initial, informal discussions with people in critical roles. So far we have received positive replies or, at least, an agreement to keep an open mind to our efforts. That’s huge!”

“We are mindful that this project carries a $6 million + investment and will eventually involve State and (hopefully, if successful) Federal support. But at this stage we totally “get”, understand and appreciate the fact that all successful historic preservations start at a local center of concerned, energized folks. Then builds from here!”
