John Glenn football team regroups to prepare for Morgan

Vs. Meadowbrook (9/26)

The Colts made their way to New Concord on Friday; it wasn’t a long trip! In the first few minutes of the game, the Colts made a touchdown, but were unable to get the extra point to take a 6 – 0 lead into the second quarter. With just over eight minutes left in the second quarter, Cooper McManaway jumped over the line for the Colts to take a one-yard touchdown run with an extra point to increase their lead to 13 – 0. The Lil’ Muskies were within two yards of the goal, and Brady Arnold from the Colts grabbed an interception to return it for a 99-yard touchdown, followed by the extra point kick by Hailey Arnold to put Meadowbrook up 20 – 0. With under a minute left in the second quarter, John Glenn’s Carter Merry made a 13-yard touchdown pass to put the Muskies on the board, still in a hole, down 20 – 7 to finish out the first half.

Things continued to go downhill for the Lil’ Muskies after the break.  Meadowbrook came back out onto the field and kicked it into overdrive, pushing their lead up to 41 – 7 to put the clock in running mode.  John Glenn kept fighting for position with the ball and finally pulled off another touchdown to shove the clock back into normal mode, but by then it was too late.  As soon as the Colts got hold of the ball, they let the clock run out to end the game for the take-home victory.

Vs. Sheridan (9/19)

On the road in Thornville on Friday, the Lil’ Muskies were taken aback when the Generals came out of the gate with a field goal to lead 3 – 0. As the first quarter slipped away, Sheridan drove downfield to gain a short-yardage touchdown, putting them in the lead 10 – 0. With John Glenn backed against the goal, Sheridan grabbed an interception on the four-yard line and then ran the ball in on the next play to grab a touchdown, increasing their advantage to 17 – 0 to end the first quarter. A few minutes into the second quarter, the Muskies put themselves on the board with an 18-yard touchdown pass, followed by the extra point to come within 10 points of Sheridan at 17 – 7. As the first half of the game came to an end, John Glenn stepped up again to get a short touchdown and pulled within a field goal of their hosts at 17 – 14.  Sheridan wouldn’t let that stand, as they pulled out a 28-yard pass for a touchdown to end the first half up 24 – 14.

The Lil’ Muskies battled out the first half of the third quarter, trying to keep Sheridan down as they pushed to gain ground.  With six minutes left in the quarter, the Generals moved into the endzone for another touchdown, leading the Muskies 31 – 14. The Muskies answered back with just under a minute left in the third to cut the lead down to 31 – 21. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Sheridan was at it again, driving all the way to the one-yard line and then punching the ball through on the very next play to light the board up 38 – 21. After kicking off to John Glenn and the Muskies losing moment on a drive downfield, Sheridan picked up the ball again, driving halfway downfield before landing a 38-yard touchdown pass and an increased score of 45 – 21 that would ultimately be the last score of the game, giving them the win.
