In a much-anticipated rivalry game Friday, October 11th, at Paul Culver Jr. Stadium in Thornville, the Scotties came into the game knowing what it meant for the MVL standing and they delivered big with a 38 – 21 win against the Sheridan Generals.
Like it was any other game of the season, Tri-Valley stepped onto the field and kicked off the ball to Sheridan only to hold them to a 4 yard gain before the Generals had to punt the ball back. The Scotties took a calculated drive down the field, little by little making their way to the 7-yard line where #6 Aidan Fritter grabbed the ball on a quarterback-keeper and shoved through to the end zone for a touchdown bringing #46 Kaden Bay onto the field to drive home the extra point and at just under halfway through the quarter, the Dawgs were up 7 – 0 against Sheridan. Following the touchdown on the Generals next drive they were only able to gain 1 yard and the quarter ended without another score.
The Dawgs started another drive for the goal shortly after the beginning of the second quarter and it ended with the same conclusion as Fritter pushed the ball the final 4-yards into the end zone for a touchdown capped by Bay bringing the lead to 14 – 0 against Sheridan with 8:24 left in the half. Both teams continued to battle and both defensive lines were not giving in, but with 43 seconds left in the half Sheridan was able to land their own touchdown that slimmed the Scotties lead down to 14 – 7. It looked as though the Scotties would end up going into halftime only up by a single touchdown but with the help of a 39-yard pass from #6 Aidan Fritter to #23 Rob Wachter the Scotties were able to capitalize on the gain for a touchdown with only 1 second to go and #46 Kaden Bay added one more point to end the half Scotties 21 – Generals 7.
After halftime the Scotties kept up the pace, driving the ball downfield in a move to increase their lead. This time #22 Blake Sands picked up the torch and ran for an 11-yard touchdown followed by Bay’s extra point popping the Scotties up to 28 to Sheridan’s 7. The Dawgs were doing a great job holding their lead but on a punt return #14 for Sheridan nabbed an 80-yard return resulting in the last score of the 3rd quarter and pushing the score to Tri-Valley 28 – Sheridan 14.
The fourth quarter saw a long drive by the Scotties to finally get #4 Morgan Williamson in range for a 33-yard Field Goal that kicked the score to 31 – 14. After the kickoff to Sheridan, however, they were able to manage a drive of their own for a touchdown with just over 5 minutes remaining in the game and bringing them within 10 points of Tri-Valley with a 31 – 21 score. The final score of the night came with just about 2 minutes remaining on the clock as #22 Blake Sands capped the night with a 3-yard touchdown followed by #46 Kaden Bays PAT that set the score to 38 – 21 Scotties. Great Job Dawgs!
