After last season’s upset at the Sectional final, the Scotties are ready to face the season and are proving it with four straight wins to open the season including beating the reigning MVL small school champs the Meadowbrook Colts in Tuesday, December 14ths game at Rich Longaberger Court in Dresden.
Last season even with the turmoil of canceled games due to COVID quarantines and illnesses, the boys were able to pull together a great season that ended with them in the MVL Big School Co-Champ seat and falling just short of a Sectional championship. This year with a good number of returning players, the Dawgs are looking to make an even better go of it, and they are hitting the ground running. Earlier this month they faced off and beat not just one but three conference teams on the road to this week where they met face to face with the Meadowbrook Colts. The Colts came off of a winning season as well picking up last year’s small school MVL Champion title.
Out of the gates, the Colts were roaring down the court and picking up the first points on the board to show that they would not be an easy mark. But in just a few minutes on the hardwood, the Dawgs had picked up the lead and were holding on tight as the two teams raced back and forth, both putting up a staunch defense. By the end of the first period, the Scotties were up 16 – 10.
The second quarter was just as fast-paced and exciting as the first with the Scotties bringing up more points per capita than the Colts and sending them to the locker room at halftime with a deficit of 34 – 20.
After halftime, Meadowbrook took back command of the court for a bit and outscored the Scotties in the third quarter by two points ending the third at TV 45 – Colts 33.
The final quarter of the game was neck-in-neck with the Scotties edging out the scoring by just one point, but the damage had been done early in the game and the Colts just couldn’t recover as they fell to the Dawgs 64 – 51.
Next up on the trail to victory for the Dawgs is a road trip to Sheridan to see who will come out on top of the battle of the MVL Co-Champs.
