The Phoenix rise up to a 5 – 0 record after three big wins on the road and back at The Nest

Vs. West Union (9/27)

On Saturday, the Foxfire Phoenix hosted the West Union Dragons at The Nest.  This season has been all about not underestimating Foxfire, and this game was no different. Right from the starting whistle, the Phoenix dominated the field to the point of really only needing half the field to play on. The boys were relentless as they laid down touchdown after touchdown and hardly started a play on anything other than the first down. By the time the first quarter was over, Foxfire had piled up a 30 – 0 lead over the Dragons that they would hold onto all the way through the rest of the first half.

After a short break, with a running clock speeding up gameplay, the two teams battled through a scoreless third quarter.  In the final period, with just minutes remaining in the game, Foxfire bolstered their lead with another touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion to take a 38 – 0 win over West Union and rocket their overall record to 5 – 0.

The Phoenix play their final regular season game at Irvington Preparatory Academy on Saturday, October 11th, with kickoff set for 6 PM.

Vs. Jefferson Township (9/19)

The Nest in South Zanesville hosted the team from Jefferson Township on Saturday.  The Phoenix started the game with an early safety to gain a two-point advantage over their opponent.  As the clock wound down to under a minute left in the quarter, the Broncos pushed forward for a touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion to put themselves in the lead at 8 – 2 over Foxfire. The Phoenix rose from the kickoff with a 70-yard kick return by #7 Zayden Imani to tie up the game at 8 – 8 with just seconds left in the first period.  Just inside the second quarter, #27 Koben Bowen piled through the defense for a two-yard rushing touchdown to give Foxfire a 14 – 8 lead, and followed it up with another quick push into the endzone for a two-point addition to lead 16 – 8. With seven minutes left on the clock, the Phoenix grabbed another touchdown and a two-point conversion to lead 24 – 8.  As the first half drew to a close, #2 Nazir Smith pushed through for a five-yard touchdown run, giving Foxfire a 32 – 8 advantage for halftime following the two-point conversion.

The Broncos kicked off to Foxfire to start the second half of the game.  Within minutes, the Phoenix’s Braydon O’Neil took the ball for a 30-yard ride to paydirt, and Ashton Wells added on a run for the two-point conversion, bringing Foxfire’s total lead to 40 – 8. With three minutes left in the third period, #4 Kydon Perdue found Zayden Imani downfield for a 32-yard touchdown pass to lead the Broncos 46 – 8. With the clock winding down quickly, neither team was able to capitalize on the last remaining minutes, and the Phoenix took the victory 46 – 8.

Vs. Stivers School for the Arts (9/13)

The Foxfire football team took a long bus ride on Saturday to Dayton to play football against the Tigers. The first quarter was pretty much head-to-head, but the Phoenix edged out Stivers by a score of 8 – 6 before the end of the period. Foxfire was able to grab another touchdown in the second quarter, but the Tigers landed two touchdowns to put Foxfire at an 18 – 16 disadvantage at halftime.

As the play continued, the Phoenix fought hard to regain control of the game, tying up with the Tigers 24 – 24 by the end of the third quarter. The final minutes of the game were edge-of-your-seat tense as Foxfire battled down to the wire, taking a final 40 – 38 narrow win over Stivers.
