In a long-fought battle against neighboring team John Glenn, the Scotties took a no score first half to heart and came back fighting to win it 3 – 0 on Tuesday, September 10th at Kenny Wolford Park in Dresden.
The first period was a constant battle back and forth with both teams swapping possession of the ball. There were attempts on the goal by both teams as well, but neither team could get it to the net.
Fear was starting to set in as John Glenn edged closer to a possible scoring situation, however, the defense was able to hold off the Little Muskies and they went into the half at 0 – 0.
The second half of the game the Scotties ramped up the intensity and started pushing hard against the opposing John Glenn defense. Perseverance won the day when the Scotties finally got past the Little Muskies goalie almost midway through the second period, with a chip shot by #16 Austin Curtis to put the Dawgs on top at 1 – 0.
“We came out quiet, but after making some adjustments at halftime, the boys came out and worked hard for the win” stated head coach Roderick Gibson.
A few minutes later, with only 22 minutes left in the half, on a downfield dribble #11 Hayden Whitt came through for the Dawgs with a nice shot to the net landing the score at 2 – 0 Scotties.
John Glenn tried to answer back with goals of their own but the Dawgs #45 Tyler McClellan saw to it that they did not with 10 total saves on the game including a great catch on a backflip assist kick by John Glenn offense, and a double block on a two attempt try by the Muskies that had McClellan diving for the save and jumping up to block all within a 10 second span.
With just a minute and a half left in the game #5 Gino Repuyan nailed another chip shot with an assist from #4 Brady Baker to finalize the Scotties winning score at 3 – 0 against John Glenn.
“We graduated a lot of talent last year, but we showed we still have a lot of heart tonight and a will to find a way to win…I’m very proud of the guys” stated Gibson.
