Dear Friend,
This week we will look at Baptist Distinctives numbers four and five in our list
of eight. They are known as “Two” offices within the church and “Individual” soul
liberty.
The first of these; “Two” offices within the church exists because scripture only
mentions two church offices ─ pastor (also referred to as elder or bishop) and
deacon. These two offices are to be filled by godly men of integrity in each local
church. Scripture gives specific qualifications for these offices (I Tim 3:1-13).
The fifth Baptist Distinctive is that of “Individual” soul liberty. We believe that
each person must make a personal decision of repentance and faith in Christ.
Parents do not make the decision for their children, and the government cannot
make it for its people. Additionally, each person is responsible before God in
matters of holiness and conscience (Rom 10:13, 14:1-23). Sadly, in our day there is
a great deal of confusion and false practice afoot in regard to these and other Bible
doctrines. And, as you may have already noted, the answer lies in Baptist
Distinctive number one. What does God’s word say?
This week, attend church where the Bible is not just mentioned, but believed,
honored, and obeyed.
