East District Sectional (9/29)
Zanesville had a good showing in the sectionals with No.1 singles player Bella Jarrett making it to the Districts next week in Columbus. Bella defeated three opponents. In her opening match, she defeated Beaver Locals Jiaqi Lin 6-0, 6-0. In the 2nd round, she downed Cambridge’s Madi Peoples 6-0, 6-2. She then went on to defeat Claymont’s Madelyn Dean 6-3, 6-4, to reach the Districts. In other action, Sara Jarrett won two matches over Claire Drazazga of West Holmes 6-0, 6-1, then in the next round she downed Claymont’s Brinley Poland 6-4, 6-1. Sara just missed qualifying for Districts, losing a tight 7-6, 7-5 in a tiebreaker 6-3 to Cambridge’s Miranda Cole. The doubles team of Tru Campbell and Hope Blackford won their first match 6 -2, 6-2, over West Holmes Natalie Lint, Delani Vaughn. Then got beaten in semi-finals by Emily Wain, Kara Wain 6-2, 6-3. The second doubles team, Aliyah Cornell, Audriona Hayes, lost to eventual champion Lana Le, LaNease Andrews, 6-1, 6-2, in the opening round.
The District Championship will be played at 9 am. Wednesday, October 8th, at Columbus Academy High School.
Vs. Logan (9/27)
The Blue Devils got another 4-1 win over Logan Saturday. Winners for Zanesville at No.1 singles: Bella Jarrett defeated. Adrianna Williams, 6-1, 6-1. Sara Jarrett won at No.2 singles over Jasmine Elick, 6-1, 6-2. Jersey Nutter took No.3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, over Kaitlan Coffman. At No.1 doubles, the team of Tru Campbell and Hope Blackford downed Logan’s Ashlyn Schlup, Nevaeh Rittenhouse 6-2, 6-2. The No.2 doubles team for ZHS of Cysily Dalrymple, Kiley Macon dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 11-9, in a third-set Super Tiebreaker.
Vs. Logan (9/20)
Zanesville picked up a win at Logan 3-2, Saturday afternoon. Blue Devils’ winners, No. 1 singles Bella Jarrett 6-0, 6-0 over Adrianna Williams. No. 2 singles, Sara Jarrett downed Jasmine Elick, 6-0, 6-1. No. 3 Jersey Nutter defeated Caitlyn Goffrill, 6-1, 6-2. Lone wins for Logan, we’re at No.1 and No. 3 doubles.
Vs. Franklin Hts. (9/18)
Zanesville High School girls’ tennis team got a 4 -1 win over Franklin Heights. Winners for ZHS. at No. 1 singles, Bella Jarrett over Vivian Crum 7-5, 6-3. No. 2 singles, Sara Jarrett downed Ellen Tillman, 7-5, 4-6, 10 -5 in a Super Tiebreaker. At No.3 singles, Jersey Nutter defeated Bren Ordonez, 6- 2, 6- 3. At No. 2 doubles, Aliyah Cornell, Adrianna Hayes won over Anna Eastman, Iga Karns, 6-1, 6-2. The Lone win for Franklin Heights was at No. 1 doubles, where Maria Salgado, Ki Wu edged Hope Blackford, Cysily Dalrymple, 6-4, 6-2.
